I know may be yet again another 2.7 rebuild FAO,
but could someone who has travelld this road already give me a few pointers on this matter. I am presently running a complete 2.7 eta in my G reg cab.
I already have aquired a 2.5 head- 2.5 intake - 2.5 thottle body.
I want to know is it worth port and polishing the head,( some say not) I do intend to put in new rockers and a 272 kentcam ? Also do my part,s match up, mainly valve,s clashing with piston head.
Does anyone know of a good engineer to who can do the work on the head. Myself my mate are going put it all together
Many thanks for ay advice.
Is there any else I should know.
Please tell me... (2.7) ?

A-tech can build 2.7
using a eta bottom end will only give you 180 brake on a good day really need ,to read Andboy thread in engine swap section

WOW That was a fast reply. Thanks, I,m checking with ant,s info now. cheer,s will post how I get on. Thank,s again
To make full use of the 325 head you will need some 325 pistons, this is the combination I have used on my 2.8 build and that has put down just over 200 Bhp on 2 different Rolling Roads in different weather conditions, with decent torque too...
To get the piston - head clearance back to standard you will need to machine some off the block top though and that means a vernier pulley to correct the cam timing.
Ant is a legend, his advice was golden when I was building mine and he supplied my CatCam, vernier and management chip

can i just hyjack this thread a little, is it possible to build a 2.7 or 2.8 using the 325i block with just the eta crank? or do you need the ETA block as well - I have seen cranks for sale on ebay but cant work out if there is a combination that works with a 325i head, block, pistons ETA crank and some different conrods?

All info can be found in the wiki mate...
You can use the 325i block and the eta crank to build the 2.7 but you will need the eta rods... Eta rods are the same as the 320 and 323 rods.. To build a 2.8 you will need a different crank from a e36 or bore out the cylinder and get bigger pistons.
There is a significant amount of more work needed in doing it with 325i pistons compared to the 325e pistons... The 325i pistons need machining around the piston skirts to clear the crank.. 325e does not.. And I disagree with the fact that using the 325i pistons being a huge advantage over the 325i ones, as the only difference is a few compression points.. If you ask me 10.2.1 comp in the eta is plenty high even with the 325i (885) head with only 4.5cc difference in the combustion chamber your still looking at 10.1 comp..
Take into account that you will be refacing the block and skimming the head you will probably end up with very near the same compression as a standard 325e eta. If you use a 323i (731) head you will end up with the same comp as standard and after refacing and machining your comp will be higher. The disadvantage of the 731 head is it has slightly smaller valves then the 885 head... If you want to get serious you can have bigger valve put in the 731 head and you will a have higher comp head then the 885 head with the same size valves. Best of both worlds.

As far as polishing the head I think you should only do the exhaust side, it would also be a good idea to port match the inlet manifold and exhaust manifold to the head. Significant gains can be made there.
And read stonesie thread its a beauty

In fact using a 885 head on an eta bottom end with eta piston gives a CR 0f 9.35:1. this figure takes into account the volume of a crushed head gasket.
Can the cam be replaced on M20 head without pulling it or does the head have to come of?
The 731 head with 325i inlet and exhaust valves has crossed my mind. I just need to get a price on all the work. I would do this if the cam cannot be changed without pulling the head.
I have the eta bottom end with 885 head combo in a heavier E28 with a 3.46:1 final drive. At a recent trackday I was keeping up with E28 M535i's (just my rolly suspension and bravery let me down) and Senetor/Carlton 3.0 V6's at another trackday. So in an E30 it would fly. Maybe I should build one.

got side tracked from this project,
but i,m still going ahead, i,m just sussing out the engine numbers on my 2.7 block so i know my piston,s and valves don,t meet up.
Still looking for some one good to port -polish (skim etc )my head maybe block too in or around London.
cheers for advice chaps.

Cheers fowler,
How much money is it likely to cost (ball park figure) with ant. To be honest- I would rather someone like him did it for me and it done RIGHT.
