Hi All, I have an e30 touring with the m30 3.5 engine it is being cooled by a air-cone fan set in front of the rad. The fan is hooked up to the speedo so that it comes on when you start the engine.

There is a fuse between it and the speedo which it keeps tripping.

I figure either the fan has had it or it is wired wrong.

At the min the brown is earth and blue wire live, is this right?

I have renewed the wires an rune one from the battery and the fan worked.

Any thoughts?

Why have you wired it up like that, most of us use a fuse and relay method, so the fan kicks in when needed.
The reason why the fuse keeps blowing could be down to 2 things, your fan is now fubared, or you're overheating the fuse by using the incorrect rating, which could also cause an underbonnet fire ir the wires overheat.

a simple switch live from the ignition to a relay for the fan works the best. Id rewire it. Do a proper job.

Just but a 4 pin 30amp relay. The diagram is normaly printed on the relay itself. I use a manual switch at the moment, But a rad one is on order.
Make sure you use 30+ amp wire and 25 fuse.

Cheers for the advice.

So I need to run a 30amp wire from the ignition to the fuse box to hook up with a 30amp 4pin relay and fuse then back to the fan.

Switch live(fused) to relay. Realy to fan switch, Switch to fan. And make sure the fan is blowing onto the rad, If it is not then swap the fan wires round.
