Yeah I've just not really done anything like this before. This will be the next job then after I get the manifolds done. Once I'm finished we should meet up and have a race down tritton road!

i encountered on problem during my engine conversion.

i'm using e34 525i complete engine.

as usual, using e36 alloy engine arm.

i've converted e36 steering. it seems that the power steering pump Inlet & Outlet was different with E34 power steering pump

The e36 325i steering rack hoses vice versa with e34 power steering pump.

do i have to get e36 power steering pump to fit on it ??

Do M52 tubular manifold fit without issues for a simple M50 swap in RHD vehicles?

If you have the stock steering UJ with the guibo then no, you would have to cut the rear 3 branches at the head flange and weld them back on so that the downpipe hugs into the block a bit more.

You have to cut off the 2 bottom flanges and weld some pipe to take it around the gearbox where a 3 piece system is

This is an unmolested M52 manifold fitted to my M50 with a modified steering linkage

You wont bolt anything to that front manifold though Lee, needs a bit of cut and shut to aim it away from the cross-member
If you use an E36 rack you have to molest it even more

So there is no manifold that just fits in there?

And the M52´s offer the least amount of cutting and welding?

Thanks guys.

you can't get away without needing to modify the exhaust manifold so may aswell save yourself the hassle of getting the steering UJ modified.

Cams in a M50b25.

I am putting a M50 and E36M3Evo box in my touring along with a 3.91 lsd. I was going to change the cam before it goes in and I am wondering if people know of any other options than Piper and Schrick cams. Could I use M52/S50 etc ? It will be used as a track car but I want to keep the budget down as much as I can. I also have a set of light weight pulleys on the way for it.
Any help would be great, thanks.

If its a track car dont fit that 6 speed box, it will inevitably sh*t itself with some abuse given

The Getrag 420 from the E36 M3 Evos are alot weaker than the 5 speed ZF from the 3.0L M3 and the 328.

They don't actually go bang in a sence but the synchros go in them and I know from experience with the 6 speed Evo box I had but hopefully my E46 one should be abit better :)

I wouldn't have used the 6 speed for a track car as the ratios are exactly the same as the 5 speed apart from 6th gear plus the box is a good bit heavier.

If the car is going to be a semi-road car, it would be perfect though if it holds for some lenght of time (my one took a year and a half of abuse in an M3 Evo drift car with a driver that broke two 200sx boxes on his road car in 6 months ) as you can have a good ratio cwp for the track such as a 3.91 or 4.1 but still have something that isn't reving at 5000rpm on the trip home.

You could use S52 cams from a US M3, James.
Should be able to pick them up for about $300 if you keep an eye on ebay and some of the US forums. Probably not as good as the Shrick cams but as the S52 cams can be had for a fraction of the price I wouldn't be too worried.

Its only going to be on track and seeing as the power from the M50 will be a lot less than an M3 I would think it will be ok. I tend to be gentle on the track any way  . I will look into the S52 cams Dave thanks. Let me know if you spot any yourself. I might be better finding a road car for this lot then and drop it in, but that that means getting another car and a new box for the Touring. I wonder if it would fit in the 77 MGB outside winkeye . Dave you up for a chalange

I can get you a ZF box for about 100-200 quid if you decide to keep the 6 speed...

An M52 and the 6 speed would be lovely for a road car

M50 could possibly be best for the track as you won't be worried as much about making scrap of the engine if you let it overheat and can always put a 2.8 or 3L bottom end in it if it does go eventually.

Any pics of the MG engine bay and transmision tunnel to give ideas of size? winkeye

Are you sure its S52 and not S50US ?

New pulleys arrived today for the M50. Nice.

I found it. S50 US 3 litre cams will fit both the M50 and M52 engine.

Imageshack is used in the above link, but photobucket etc are all pretty similar.

Thought Id update this.
Dave from Fritzbits (who actually started this thread 5 years ago :o ) can now supply a full 6 branch manifold and exhaust system for 24v converted E30s. The price is £1200 including VAT with a life time warranty I believe.

From what Ive seen, it uses the original mounting locations on the E30, so two around the backbox, one on the rear beam and one on the gearbox and all mounts are supplied. Its a 2x2.5" system with a X-over pipe, it looks very well made and sounds great but not too loud - Dave wanted to keep it subtle.
Ive only experienced one on Daves M50'd car, but it went very well indeed winkeye
