If you want a reliable GT cruiser for not much money, the Soarer is so far ahead of the german offerings.

It would also have given stuff like the Aston Vantage a fair run for it's money, in the same way an NSX can make a Ferrari think twice.

my very first sighting of one was an 850 about 15 yrs or more ago in a shade of silber,
the quad pipes and huge fat tyres looked the bollox --then i walked round the front :?

strange but interesting and i'm still not sure if i like :?:

These cars are great fun, but you have to get the 850csi rather than the 840 which is much slower and less responsive. any E31 owner will tell you once you drive the 5ltr the 840 just seems a bit pony.... they did a few limited edition 850 alpina's which were manual but most are auto if you can find one the B12 5.7ltr is the one to have, and yes Maclaren stole the lump preventing the release of the M8 which would have been the muts nuts....check out www.e31.net

model list bellow:
840Ci 286 hp V8, 4.0l 07/1993 - 02/1996
840Ci 286 hp V8, 4.4l 01/1995 - 05/1999
850i 300 hp V12, 5.0l 05/1989 - 12/1992
850Ci 300 hp V12, 5.0l 01/1993 - 10/1994
850Ci 326 hp V12, 5.4l 02/1994 - 05/1999
850CSi 380 hp V12, 5.6l 08/1992 - 11/1996
Alpina B12 5.0 350 hp V12, 5.0l 06/1990 - 05/1994
Alpina B12 5.7 416 hp V12, 5.7l 11/1992 - 12/1996

as it is the 850 was more than enough car, i got mine up to 155mph before it hit the limiter but had plenty more to go....was racing a ferrari 360 at the time which to be honest kicked my arse when he kept going as i hit the limiter..... pics of my old 850CSI bellow.....

one of the best cars i have ever owned, but you need a big pocket for it...

cost £140 to fill the tank which lasted about a week an a half town driving

new suspension will run you in at £2500 plus fitting
and the steering box went on mine which was only available from BMW main dealer and cost me a wopping £4500 fitted.

still miss it though...

not as much as my old M3 which if you want a much more fun drive then i would go for this without hessitation.....
i regrette selling mine more and more every day especially as i sold it stupidly cheap...
i think its now owned by a zoner so all is well.

i'm sure the 850 i saw was the alpina as it had the wheels and was top spec,

an 840 turned up at a zone meet in portsmouth last yr just to say he wanted to ring it

same bloke has a big yank with a blower i think 5ltr v8 with pipes that will blow your ear drums out.
