Back again for more assistance from the 'knowledge'!

Two faults at the moment - the central locking on my 1991 touring has stopped working. Doesn't operate via the alarm or via tha key in the door. Makes a strange 'quiet' noise, but no action. Is this the famous 'failing' switch fault? or worse?

Fault number two: I've mentioned this on the forum before, mainly with regard to 'flickering dash illumination'. The fault hasn't got worse, but driving late a night recently, I noticed that the headlights were flickering as well - so I guess this is effecting all the electrics. Although everything works ok? I'm technically feeble, so please help me out?

Cheers ProfDMW

Flickering headlamps is probably a failing regulator/ brush pack on the altenator.
Central locking problem. See if there is 12V+ at the red/black wire going into the locking ECU. Check with a lamp, not a meter. If this is missing then a pin in the driver's door plug and socket is probably corroded.
There are two red/black wires going into the door pillar socket. Remove them both from the socket and join them together.
