Just changed the radiator on my M52 conversion and can't clear an air lock !!!!

Normally I just run the engine and gradually fill the system until all the air has bubbled out and all is OK. Not this time though ! Any tips on this, the temperature is just rising to about 3/4 when I get "scared" and turn off. Bottom hose does get warm.

Unfortunatley the next trip is for an MOT, so no chance to have a drive :-(

Maybe a stupid question, but i`ve been led to believe over the years that when filling & bleading the system that the heater is put on to hot and turned on full bore.
Did you do that?

Squeeze the top hose with your finger on the overflow into the expansion tank and it will push the coolant round

I've got an E36 air con rad with built in expansion, so no "tube" to put finger over, or am I missing something ?

undo the bleed screw in the top of the radiator to the left of the head tank cap before you fill it up, then fill it with the heater on hot until the water comes out of the bleed screw then do up the bleed screw and fill it to the correct level,, i got stuck on one of these, if you dont undo it it will take about three or four openings of the stat before you can get it full,.."Watch the

Engine"!!!!,..

Heater on hot, fan blower on 2 or above, front of the car raised as high as you can physically get it. Get the bleed screw on the top of the rad un done and run her up. As technical01 says, it will take a few attempts.

i got shut of all the "extra" hoses around the inlet side to aid bleeding... extra bit of hose and a joint at front of engine where water exits gave me an extra bleed point that i found useful!!

Got the front up high and refilled, moved the water around with Dan's method. All ok now
