That wasn't a quote. It's my interpretation of my initial quote above.
The way I interpret my policy is that if my car isn't taxed or MOTd, then my insurance is invalid.

If you're interpreting this to say that point#1 means you have to have an MOT for your insurance to be valid, then you're also saying that point#2 is stating that a road tax disc is needed for your insurance to be valid.

1."You must have a valid MOT for your car if one is required by law"
and
2."You must have a valid road fund licence"

Neither of those are true, mate.
You DO need both to stay legal, but without both of them your insurance is still valid (unless your car in deemed to be unroadworthy)

If in the small print of my policy it said "You must wear pink socks at all times for this insurance to be valid", then surely my failure to wear pink socks is failing to meet the conditions of my insurance, and so making my insurance invalid?

If so, then the insurer can also specify that the policy only counts if the car has an MOT?

Put it another way, does anyone think it's ok to drive a car to a pre-booked MOT appointment without any insurance?

Now we know it's ok to drive to such an appointment without actually having a current MOT, but try it without insurance. If no MOT invalidated your insurance, then by having no current test certificate you'd have invalidated any running insurance anyway.....technically meaning you weren't covered whether you'd paid your premium or not. If there's an exemption stating this then I've never seen it, nor has any copper I've ever spoken to.

N00B, Stu and Town, I had an accident 4 weeks ago where i wrote off my car, another car and damaged another and the the accident was deemed my fault in the eyes of the law even though it wasn't.

I claimed for my car and got payed out the full amount (after a shit offer of half the value!) and when proccessing the claim one of the things the ask for is the current MOT. On my insurance paperwork it stated that the value of the payout could be reduced if the car did not have a current MOT. No where on my paperwork did it say that my insurance would be invalid if the car did not have a current MOT. I even asked the question if the policy would be void if the car didnt have a current MOT and the answer was NO!

I was insured with Admiral so arguably one of the bigger insureres out there.

My advice, read the small print!

Another thing to note is that i let the MOT lapse on one of my cars by over a month and was pulled because it came up on the computer that the car didnt have a current one.

I explained that i had completely forgot about it and what made it even more embarasing was when he saw my MOT testers smart card in my wallet when i pulled out my driving licence!

He saw the funny side and let me go without a fine when i said i'll get it tested the next day.

Totally agree mate.
The key phrase on your policy is "in roadworthy condition". All an MOT proves is your car is your car was roadworthy on the day it was tested. Try using the "but it has an MOT" defence to get out of a bald tyre fine and they'll laugh at you while writing out the ticket.

The police have the power to seize a car for no insurance.

They don't have the power to seize for no tax or no MOT.

It's the DVLA that seize vehicles for no Tax, so unless youre unlucky enough to drive past a joint ANPR operation between the police and DVLA, there's not much chance of it being seized.

The DVLA tend to seize parked vehicles from the side of the road after reports, or when they are discovered by they're own camera vans.

No insurance is a criminal offence

No MOT is a motoring offence

No road fund licence is a DVLA issue.

I'm not saying that it's the case that no MOT invalidates insurance, I'm asking if it's specifically written in to your policy as a condition of insurance, then surely the insurers have a get out clause come claim time. Or are you saying they can't write such a clause into your policy?

No, I'm saying that I have no doubt they are present in your policy.....you're just interpreting what they've said incorrectly.
The road traffic act of 1988 is very specific about insurance policies. You should read it.

And, as a fellow zoner has already pointed out, they can't do this. What they can do, is reduce your payout.

just book your car in for an mot appointment at a garage you will drive past, collect it on a weekend or try before 6pm and just take it home and cancel your booking, simple!
