I'm having grief with my e39 540i. It wont start :x

The fuel pump is not working, Not getting any fuel to the filter.
Can anyone tell me where I can find the fuse for the pump? :o:

Or does anyone want to buy the turd off me this weekend for £1500 and fix it themselves??? :)

How much is a fuel pump for an E39.?

From what i've seen of E39 parts needed for my brothers parts seem to be high having been used to E30's for so long  but then i suppose that's expected for all the extra car you get with an e39 compared to an e30.

Ot, but what was the 540 like to live with?

I'm thinking of getting one later this year (or anything over 3.0) and either finding one on lpg, or if i can get a good enough within budget then buy the car and lpg it myself.

My brother has the 528 sport which i like, but i think i'd prefer a bigger engine'd one personally.

I got it working again. Just the relay :D
It's a great car to drive everyday to be honest. If I drive like a tart I can get 20-23mpg driving around town. Engine is the best thing about it imo
Why not buy my one winkeye ??

It's my brothers wedding in 2weeks time, so what was set aside for my new car budget has been totally blown on the wedding...therefore the car budget won't be in place again till late this year.

Any pics of yours?
I would want one with full m-sport kit, and with the brushed aluminium trim (just makes them look and feel newer).

I won't be wanting a manual...a friend of mine has a manual, and while you can have more fun in it, most of the time you don't want a manual in a car this big.

I'll probably set a budget of £3-5K for an LPG'd one, where-by if it isn't LPG'd then i'll need to be towards the lower end of the budget, but willing to pay towards the top end for a late one with all the goodies that's already been lpg'd.

I have one alternative which is to wait 1 more year, and then buy an M5 as i'll need the extra no-claims to be able to insure it for a reasonable amount.

With a 540i you don't need to change gear :P
An nice facelift e39 540i on LPG would be a perfect daily driver imo. Beware though, general maintenance and repairs on these is far more costly and less diy friendly than on an e30.
The M5s are awesome but I'm not brave enough to take the plunge personally.

I would always budget from repairs....the 528 is showing me how many small niggles they can have, and this would really nag me unless they were all fixed.

That said, having done a bit more research on them it seems the v8's are less lively to drive due to the heavier blocks and slower/unresponsive steering.
I always have the option of buying the 528 off my brother as i don't think he has any idea what he's bought into.
