m42 sensors
Moderator: martauto
hey guys, my question is, if I have plugged my engine harness into the wrong sensors, will this stop the engine from starting?? or will it just run rough? also are there 2 temp sensors directly under the inlet manifold on the m42?
thanks
thanks
well have done engine sway and using e30 loom on dirty-6 engine!!
think that the things are all plugged in correctly im only half sure that iv got the correct wire in the oil pressure switch!!
what are the chances of this not letting the car run??
thought the sensors are just for the instrument cluster mainly apart from knock sensors and cam and crank??? im confused

all the sensors are plugged in but just checking before i start delving deeper! would it still start if the temp sensors or the oil pressure switch were mixed up?? ive had cars in the past where after major engine work i have had to bump start them to get them started may this be the case with this??
The sensors will have to plugged into the right places. For the cam and crankshaft sensors the cam sensor plugs into the top connection under the inlet manifold and the crank sensor in the bottom connection.
There are two coolant temp sensors on the m42.The blue sensor is for the ECU and the brown sensor is for the temp gauge.I don't think the gauge reads right with a E36 sensor so you will probably have to fit a E30 brown sensor.

cool, will go and get the multimeter out and do some more checking things!!
does the towing it and bumping it to get it started sound like a silly idea or is it another option?
as i am fairly sure that things are plugged in correctly!!
thanks again
