Im wondering if anyone can tell me the best rear spring rate to go for. I have got an early 325i, it has been stripped out inside and is now sitting rear end high. It had previously been lowered and the front is fine at the mo so im gonna replace the rear shocks, just not sure on what spring rate to go for.
Any ideas on how much a stripped E30 weighs? Im guessing around 1100KG so something like 200/250KG springs (about 500lbs)???

you need to change the length of your spring to adjust the ride height.
What spring rate are you running front? 200lbs difference front to rear is a good starting point but there are more things to consider. (front weaker than rear BTW)

Assuming you dont have at least 2 way dampers you really need to match springs to dampers & visa versa or they will never be perfect..
Anyway ball park for a track based 6pot.. 600lb front, 350lb rear (coilover) 500lb inboard.
Race prep'd you could get the car down to a ton, still with a few seats and some vague degree of road comfort 1100kg is a good target.

Mine weight about 1000kg with cage, and one seat. Mine still has the original bonnet and boot with all the hinges, reinforcement and latches as well.jonnygould wrote:

The equivalent inboard spring to a 350lb/in rear coilover would be 980lb/in, explanation HEREBlack_Potato wrote:Assuming you dont have at least 2 way dampers you really need to match springs to dampers & visa versa or they will never be perfect..

980 rear inboard will also be a better match for 600lbs from IMO.handpaper wrote:The equivalent inboard spring to a 350lb/in rear coilover would be 980lb/in, explanation HEREBlack_Potato wrote:Assuming you dont have at least 2 way dampers you really need to match springs to dampers & visa versa or they will never be perfect..
