I'm at a bit of a loss to find this problem. Have checked all connections at back of instrument cluster, all fuses are OK. Wiring diagrams I have are near impssible to follow.

Has anyone got any suggestions?

Mabye a crack on a PCB trace inside the cluster?

The traces are think solder plated ones instread of the usual thin film ones you see on PCBs. These don't flex very well and hairline stress cracks develop.

Open the cluster and reflow any suspect traces with a soldering iron.

Also, just reseating the tach into its connector on the main PCB might help (as would reseating all the cluster & ECU connections)
