Hi,
I am looking at upgrading my rally car windows to perspex. Anybody know of a good supplier for door and side windows? And what is a typical price?
Also I was wondering if it is possible to make new sliding side windows from Perspex? It wouldn't be to hard to buy some perspex sheet, lay it on top of an existing window and to heat it up with a hot air gun. This way the perspex window would take the shape of the original window and I could cut it out. Fitting the slider pickups shouldn't be too hard.
Or will the perspex get to easily scratched when sliding up and down?

Don't use perspex. shatters in a crash.
And plastic windows will get scratched. remove the excess weight from the window winders.

Well I meant polycarbonate windows.
Wouldn't the correct coating prevent them from being scratched? I thought they were able to give the window polycarbonate a quite good finish nowadays?

but why would you need it on a rally car even if it wont get scratched?
if you are going to the bother of swapping out the windows, then ditch the winders. will save a fair bit of weight.

MSA regulations mean that you need polycarbonate windows or alternatively you can stick a film on the windows. I currently have the film, but the view isn't sufficiently clear for my liking.
The entire vision appears to be slightly fuzzy.
To that is why I want to move to polycarbonate. Also I am already using the very old lightweight window winders (as used in pre 86 cars) . So ditching them would save me less than 1kg per side.

I have a plastics for performance kit on my rally car with a bronze tint and sliders, only way to stop them getting ridiculously scratched is to buy the plexi glass kit but this is around £500. Also, polycarb windows wont work on an e30 with winders due to the flex in the window making it very dificult to close, only cars with parralel runners like escorts can get away with it.

I've used a polycarb kit with a bronze tint from airdale before, very good quality.

I just made up some L brackets to hold the polycarb in the "up" position on the runners.
