OVERSIZE AVATARS AND SIGS - PLEASE READ!!
Moderator: martauto
what about the huge mega bong pics that aren't resized and take ages to load up knocking the page out etc in the for sale section.this is a pxss take more than any sig pic or avatar and must eat loads of "BANDWIDTH" will the zone tries to resize those pics?

If a pic is hosted elsewhere, I don't think it has much effect on the site's server bandwidth - it's obviously a pain for people viewing the site though, particularly on slower/mobile connections. I'll see if I can find out how much 'effort' the re-sizing bit takes...
Pics on a for sale thread only effect that thread though - & it's in the seller's best interests to sort it out! Avatars and sigs appear wherever a user posts - & IMO are more of an annoyance.
If everyone wants to stump up to pay for us to employ someone to tidy the site full time, I'm sure we'll manage to get everything close to perfect. Until then, you'll have to make do with what we manage to do in our own free time... & try to help us out by sticking to the above!

Ta! That's nothing compared to some though - there were plenty in the 1mb+ bracket that were the catalyst for us trying to have a 'tidy up'!sihooker wrote:I've just removed my animated avatar![]()
I didn't realise it was 22Kb!
(Have a look at your sig next

If a partial reason for this being to help the slow coonts on rubbish grade broadband and mobile connections, then all as it takes is a bit of zone upgrading.
Make a 'mobile' or 'lite' button at the top of the page which just removes the [img] tags from page rendering. Users are then left with a link to photobucket or imageshack, rather than a picture?
Or modify the site and make a genuine mobile attempt?
EDIT:
25KB for a sig is a pee pee take. I could draw you a low quality white box for more memory!
Seriously should be around 50/60 kb mark. Only what 10-15 posts per page? Thats nothing! What about the 4-5mb photos people post up from their image hosting accounts.
Its not your server load either!

50/60kb would have been reasonable - but as it's perfectly possible to make an image of the max dimensions only 25k, what would be the advantage?Nay wrote:If a partial reason for this being to help the slow coonts on rubbish grade broadband and mobile connections, then all as it takes is a bit of zone upgrading.

As for upgrades, how about people stick to the rules as they are - or is your time that much more valuable than Steve's?

Your avatar is slightly too big (file size), and your sig is too tall by 6 whole pixels!
Realistically though - don't worry about it.

I only bumped this post because it was easier than typing it out again myself - don't blame WillDanThe wrote:Is willnz ex-police by any chance?![]()

He wasn't doing a very good job with his over-sized law-breaking avatar anyway. Got to be worthy of a temp ban now I think about it...

This boils my p155 as well!magpie wrote:what about the huge mega bong pics that aren't resized and take ages to load up knocking the page out etc
If I'm on my wireless connection and I unknowingly click on to a page that has loads of pics that are oversized my connection crashes. Of all the sites I go on, the 'Zone is the only one it happens on, so I don't believe it's down to me having a sub-standard wireless set up. Why can't people resize their pics when they host them????????????? It's so easy to resize them on Imageshack, even I can do it.
In the subject of sigs and avatars, I got a PM from Ziggy ages ago because mine were too big. I don't have a clue about pixels and KBs.

I've re-rendered it to 25 odd kB. I had to take away some of the quality to do it but, hey, at least it leaves you out of any hassle.325isporttech1 wrote:How can i reduce the size of my sig? didnt realize it was 75000kb
Right click and save this to your computer.
