Car will turn over but not start.
It's done it before and the mechanic told me it was the immobiliser, and I'm pretty sure it's the same problem. This doesn't appear to be connected to the alarm as I turned the alarm box off with with the key and it still won't start.
So can anyone tell me if there was a factory immobiliser (as I think this must be what I have) and is there a way of disconnecting/disabling it by myself?
Disconnecting immobiliser?

if you have orig bmw alarm then by turning the key it would allow you to drive the car as it turns off the alarm and immob.
i think there must be some other kind fault

There are loads of reasons why a car might turn over and not start.
Check with a lamp or meter whether there is 12v+ at the + terminal on the ignition coil with the ignition on.

I have no way of doing this so looks like it's a garage job.Brianmoooore wrote:There are loads of reasons why a car might turn over and not start.

Was hoping for an easy fix but I suppose I was being too hopeful
I was/am so sure it's the immobiliser as it happened in the same odd situation as last time (after a hard right turn at low speed), and I've tried the same things to sort it but again they haven't worked, and after the mechanic sorted it I was told it was the immobiliser and he's not known for lying.
Ah well cheers for the help guys anyway

You can't come up with a 12V lamp and a bit of wire??Zayyan wrote:I have no way of doing this so looks like it's a garage job.Brianmoooore wrote:There are loads of reasons why a car might turn over and not start.

Lamp yes, but wire, not in this house
Any idea why it's happened twice after a hard right turn by any chance? Just out of interest...

You only need six inches of any kind of wire! Cut it off the telly lead.Zayyan wrote:Lamp yes, but wire, not in this house

Can't offer any kind of advice about why it's happening untill a few tests are done to find out what's happening.
BMW connector for the imobilizer is above the top panel of the glovebox, but the average alarm fitter doesn't know this, so it's likeky to be bodged in anywhere.
If you want to have a look, look along the loom for a white two pin socket with two green wires going to it. PLugged into this is a matching plug, which in a car without an alarm, or an incorrectly fitted one, will have a short loop of green wire connected to it.
Take it to a garage at your peril.
