I use EBC yellows, but they're a dusty pad. It doesn't bother me, but it might bother you. Try some redstuff??paddyvw wrote:any body?

leaning towards padgid i do alot of fast road and want some bite. looking for a good reliable cheap supplier of braided hoses and pads but unsure exactly which ones best. heard the yellow can be hard to get warm on the road. also had greenstuff shite and wouldnt be fond of ebc but could be advised differently

Ferodo DS2500 are well regarded, but not sure how good they are on road/ from cold. About £120 a set though

If money isn't an object, then I'd go Pagid too. Theyre superb pads, but you have to pay good money for them.paddyvw wrote:leaning towards pagid

I have no issues with my yellows. They bite well from cold and better when warmed up. The only thing I could fault them for is the dust they generate.paddyvw wrote:heard the yellow can be hard to get warm on the road. also had greenstuff shite and wouldnt be fond of ebc but could be advised differently

I used DS2500 when I my E30 was a road/track car. They are very good cold, and have good bite when hot. The best thing about the Ferodo DS2500's is that they are tried and trusted by so many people.
I use Performance Friction PF06 pads now as my E30 is now a dedicated track car. I would not recommend these though if you still drive the car on the road

I find the more mileage you put on the Yellows, the more you have to work them to remove the glaze when using them on the road. I'd get a set of yellows and use them for track and just change back to standard pads for the road, it is not a hard job.

Get a set of 'road' discs too if you're going that route - pads and discs wear together and you'll waste lots of time and pad just bedding them in over and over.Jon_Bmw wrote:I find the more mileage you put on the Yellows, the more you have to work them to remove the glaze when using them on the road. Personally, I'd just fit something good and leave it fitted.
Pagid Yellow (RS29) are awesome track pads, last ages and have better-than-OE friction from cold but they aren't cheap.
If you can find them, Hawk HT10 are good, too. I have a set I bought in July 2008 that have done 50 'Ring laps, two sessions at Hockenheim, trackdays at Llandow and Cadwell and about 20,000 road miles. There's about 5mm left on them. The OE BMW discs fitted at the same time are still OK, too.

I use EBC yellows on the front of mine with no issues, great on track and fine on the road. Have done three trackdays on them now and still ok. I find they are much less dusty than the oem ones, I have oems on the back at the moment and they produce much more dust than the fronts. It seems there are quite a few options that you can leave on and not have to keep swapping.
Mark.

"yellow" dust really needs to be cleaned from the alloy and not just left. It sticks like hell to the wheel and makes a mess of them in no time at all.Kos wrote:the EBC yellows dust is not good for alloys, the reds are ok apparently !

Do you guys have Hawk pads available in the UK? If so, you should consider the Hawk DTC-60 pad (front) and HT-10 (rear, closest equivalent to the DTC-60).
Hawk is very highly regarded in the US. These compounds are indeed true race compounds and should not be street driven, but will certainly serve you very well for track use.

Mine is only a track car, it doesnt get used on the road so I needn't worry about a second set, but probably good advice for the OP.handpaper wrote:Get a set of 'road' discs too if you're going that route - pads and discs wear together and you'll waste lots of time and pad just bedding them in over and over.Jon_Bmw wrote:I find the more mileage you put on the Yellows, the more you have to work them to remove the glaze when using them on the road. Handpaper, how have your Pagids held up? Any crumbling or glazing issues as you have put some good mileage on them. If you have genuinely done that mileage on them, they are unbelievably good value even if they cost £120>

It's the Hawk pads that have lasted that long, not the Pagids.
My last set of RS29s managed a day at Llandow, 5,000 road miles and 110 'Ring laps before being replaced with the Hawk HT10.
For longevity, especially when stupidly hot (Llandow!), I'd prefer the Hawk pads. Pagids Yellows do have better friction, both cold and hot, though (if you don't mind the horrible noise they make when hot).
In normal road use, both pads will outlast 'OE grade' by more than enough to justify the extra cost.

I have RS29s on the trackday car. I may need some more in a few months' time. Lowest price I've seen is just over £200 for both fronts. Anybody got any cheaper contacts?

i'd say you'd be best to stick with one of the proven "known" brands for pads. black diamond discs are well regarded however their pads are best for street use. EBC have come a long way since they first come up on the market and to make them selves a viable option they are cheap compared to the rest.

I do wonder how long it will be before they do 'an r888*.'
*people who have bought r888s over the last 3 years will know what I mean.
