Dont know whether anybody else noticed the thread about the warning light coming on the dash, and somebody saying yeah happens all the time! just take out the bulb, Well thank goodness we got blokes like Brian Moore, He replied NOooooooooooooooo take the dash out, look at the back of the circuit board just above the temp gauge thers a small raised part, this is where the resistor sits on the board and is the cullprit for the affending light like Brian said the soldered joints become dry and loose, simply resolder the two joints and hey presto fixed! I for one have spent a lot of years in the motor trade, and owned quite a few BMWs including 6 or more e30 m3s most of them suffering from this annoying fault and trying allsorts to fix it, possibly would be usefull in the tech fix-it section . Thanks again Brian well done mate, Dave

i will second this..
Brian Moore has produced some of the most constructive and practical inputs as far as maintanance and repairs on this site, and i would like to thank him for his efforts.
Never a sour comment from this lad and always willing to go that extra mile, with a part number or suggestion of reparators on your behalf.
cheers geez, thanks for all your help

Ooh stop it, you're making me blush. Don't know about the lad bit though. There was a thread on the zone about member's ages a while back, and although not he oldest, I was well in the running.
I have three E30's in full roadworthy condition, and at one point last year all three of them had the flashing pad warning light for no apparent reason. This was beginning to annoy, so determined to get to the bottom of it, and with the aid of a scrap wiring loom and a spare cluster, worked my way through the whole circuit.
I found the two resistor joints on the cluster I was working from were cracked, so I then opened up three more old clusters and found the same dry joints in all of them. In the following days, removed and opened up the three clusters in my cars and once again all dry jointed.

I will confirm that i also think that Brian Moore is only full of good recomendations, he fixed my power window problem as he knew it was the door switch, how somebody could know that there are two contacts behind the door switch is beyond me (one for interior lights and other for power windows) he obviously has spent an unhealthy amount of time poking around in there!!
Good work fella
