For anyone not sure, or just starting out. Wash mitt, good car shampoo, and two bucket method.

well i think it's about time someone with exprerience of working at these places (me :) ) should have their say.

i worked at an IMO/ARC automatic carwash for a while & after working there there's no way i would put any car i own through them.

let's put it this way we once had a top of the range scooby come in one day (complete with huge rear spoiler) & we told the driver that we could not be help to account if the brush that came over the top of the car damaged or ripped off the boot spoiler & he said not to worry as he'd been through them loas of time's winkeye .

& sure enough part way through all me & the bloke who ran the place could hear was the sound of crunching metal & plastic as the roof /rear brush took the spoiler off his car, any way we stopped the machine & got his car out & he starts going mental at us screaming about how much we have got to pay to repair his car & even though my boss showed him the statement in the operarters handbook stating that the machine operaters could not/will not be held to account for any damages he still rang the police & he ended up being done for wasting police time & threatening behavoir (spelling?) to me & my boss.

also yes they are crap for your car & can & will damage/scratch your paint!!!.

& don't get me started about the bently conti gt that came through & caused the machine to be shut down for a fortnight winkeye

got to admit it was a fun job in the summertime though  :D

That's good to know m8 never take your car to the car wash. Some times done a jet wash , but you cnt bet a good home wash with a hose and bucket

I Jet washed my car yesterday, £2 for 5 minutes at Tesco and it came out looking great.

Looks like a pig has rolled all over it today.

Just finished giving mine a lovely bath and wax in Meguiars Gold stuff. Problem is I think I'm becoming addicted to the smell.

not sure about jet washes either....those brushes (brooms basically) can cause nasty fine scratching. a hand car wash with good guys willing to do a decent job is always best......why work up a sweat at a jet wash when you can pay someone £5-£10 to do inside and out and dry it (or am i a bit posh?)......

for 15" bbs alloys though, if you want them done properly................take a day off work winkeye

there seems to be enough places popping up willig to do it for £5 a time, in fact if i can't be arsed to do it myself i take the sport to a garage down the road & leave it with them for an hour or so & it allways come's back looking pristine :D

yes i'm lazy :o:

aint nothing like doing it yourself in my opinion, i enjoy spending a couple hours cleaning the e30 on a sunday afternoon and get pleasure out of knowing no one can do it quite as well as me.
