Hi folks,

Can anyone answer my MOT question?

If a vehicle has MOT (e.g. 3 months left), can you submit the car for a new MOT to gain a new 12 months. Basically can a new MOT be done at anytime or do you have to wait until 28 days before the expiry (13 month MOT)?

Cheers, Mark

You can renew an MOT certificate at any time you like. The new certificate will be valid for twelve months from the date of the test, unless you renew it within the last month that the current certificate is due to run, when the new certificate will expire twelve months after the old certificate was due to expire - a maximum of thirteen months.

That makes perfect sense and has answered my question concisely!

Cheers!

Not so. The fact remains that if your car fails, it is now illegal because it has failed to meet the minimum standards required of the MOT.
BUT the MOT certificate is not cancelled by the fail.

Remember the MOT is only valid at the time and day of the test but the certificate is valid until midnight of the expiry date.
