E30 Window Cut Off Switch

Driving to work this morning I sat there at the lights and wondered why BM fitted a window cut of switch on my car which is a two door. If I dont want the passenger to open the window then I'd not let them touch the button.

Was there a reason for fitting this on a 2dr car ???

Funny story...

The day i bought my e30, i was, as you do messing about with buttons and bits an bobs, and must have pressed the cut off switch, anyway, go to lock up the car, and i cant get the windows up, im thinking ive fucked it, so go and get some black bags and tape and cover up the windows for the night.

Got up in the morning, and realised what id done.. needless to say i felt like a bellend.

But aye, its useless.

i have no idea why they put in the coupe , i first thought it was becasue, it was cheaper to standardise that center section. So they dont have to produce 2 different types of center sections.....does that make any sense.. or am i talking bollocks

"Automatic Circuit Breaker:

To deactivate the electric window lift circuit to prevent children left in the car from operating the windows and perhaps injuring themselves."

Yeah like children wont press that button whilst playing beethoven on all the other buttons in the car.......The hamster inside the brain of Mr BMW must have been sweating his arsse off whilst he thought of that one!!!

i know, it's quality ain't it. There is a whole 3 paragraphs warning about leaving your kids in the car with the keys.

Some was really struggling for content when they came up with that one.

If you want to find out why it's fitted stick your head through the open window, and ask someone to keep the window up switch presswd.
Shortly before you pass out the button should flip, cutting off the power to the motor. It's a thermal, resetable fuse.
The buttom shouldn't release if you press it.
The isolator switch on a four door is a smaller square button on the front left of the console.

Not neccessarily. Only cuts the power, not opens the window again.
