As an overview of the story:
The owner, Mike Burroughs, kept the car in fantastic shape for a while, it looked stunning.

He lent it to a friend, and whilst it was on loan it got whacked by a Semi trailer
Wrote the car off completely - bent the A pillar, wing, door, everything on the N/S front. He decided to keep the car and "make it his own".

He found out recently that the chassis etc. was more warped than he first thought, (speed hump destroyed it) and this was time to give up
The engine had done over 400k miles and was still running strong, a testament to BM engineering IMO.
This car got me into the BMW scene, I'd love to get my Touring running with a stance like that!! (Maybe not so much camber on the back...)
RIP rusty

I can see the pillar is dented but it doesnt look exactly written off, having a quick glance at the link Jhonno posted it seems he found cracks, which is expected, having no suspension travel...andrew_baran wrote:

He killed the car with the ridiculous suspension, if you want to do this to a car then you cant expect to be able to drive the fcking thing with no consequences. Park it up and take pictures of it, it wont be good for much else

Ratlook has been around years those loosers with VW beetles and campers started it in this country but i think it started in America on the hotrod things they have.320ise wrote:agree on the above suspension issues, but i think the car looked really good! and very different did this car inspire the whole rat look scene or were there others before this?

Rat Look is all great fun until someone ruins a car that deserved better, or a rare car.
The whole "rat look" scene evolved from the American Hot Rod scene when people spent all their money under the hood, and left the exterior all tatty. Dubbers then adapted it into hoodride/rat look, then people started mashing their Peugeot 106's and calling it "rat"...

I hate to see the american rat rod's, cars like Ford Model B's, Chevrolet 3100's etc.... all deserve much better.andrew_baran wrote:Rat Look is all great fun until someone ruins a car that deserved better, or a rare car.

I love the rat look, as long as it doesn't include roof racks with stuff piled on top of them. That is where it all gets a bit 'arty' which is NOT what it's about, IMO. The displays seen nowadays at shows reminds of 'The un-made bed' thing...bollox! Bikers have had a rat scene going on for donkey's years.

First time i've seen this car and i love it, got a e34 tourer sitting in the drive, might pop down halfords for a can of spray on rust and gas axe the springs
ah man i loved that car, it was all about being different, cool, and best of all using and enjoying the car
ive had it as my desktop for aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages makes me smile everytime i look at it
tis a sad day

Whats with all the hating? It got twatted by a truck which knobbled the chassis, the engine had done 400k miles it wasn't worth restoring back to its former glory so the guy "made it his own" and ran it til it died. Fair play to him.
Its not like he started with a perfectly good car and wrecked it, IT WAS HIT BY A TRUCK FFS.
I'd rather see someone do that than people who spend their lives polishing cars inside their garage then trailer them to shows polish it some more then trailer back to a garage thats just
At least this one was driven!!!

i loved that car too, although not the graphics and kc daylighters of the last pic.
i like that it accidently turned rat after the accident. the car was worth next to nothing, so why not do what the hell you like to it and enjoy it for as long as possible before getting rid.
it was a nice car when it was tidy, the damage to the a pillar etc would probably cost more to repair than it was worth, so it was always going to be on borrowed time, during which t got turned into one of the most famous cars on the internet!
enjoyed reading their epic cross country road trip, with matching lowrise trailer. shame it just seemed to sort of fizzle out towards the end.
