the plan for the rear window is to worry about it later, lol. im going to start by making up the framework and using plexi glass but i reckon i wont be happy with that, will look into how the custom car guys get on with one off stuff.
I know what you mean about the hearse thing but i reckon the M3 kit will balance it out, could do with a photoshop guru mocking it up.
just reading through your resto steve, just got to where you picked up the red one.

looks like you'll have fun.
Wasn't there a 4 door version made by a guy in Spain or some place ?
Someone put a link up for it a while back.

I like the look of that one but the one I was thinking of was a red 4 door.
Matt if your not sure what to do with the rear windows just make them out of metal.
I need a new van

i've wanted to do this for ages, in my opinion, it would be the best looking E30. 'the car that never was'
if you go for a single rear window, losing or capping the rear rollover hoop could be, err, interesting. this reason alone is enough for me to opt for a 4 door.
the seatbelt mountings will need a new home if you lose this too.
with a proper engine, shell rigidity would be a concern. easy enough to replace but i guess it'll be very hard to make it look factory again.
this looks to be an awesome project though, subscribed

That one doesn't look right.. It is still running Touring front doors, so the back looks very long and out of proportionRav335uk wrote:

I think the problem with the blue one is the lack of door handles. The red one that's out there on the net looks much nicer: The guy spent the time grafting cut outs for the handles. With no handles the rear does indeed look too long (cos the front doors are too short).

Looks more naturally proportioned than the blue one.

agreed. i'd build it like the red one if i was to tackle this myself.
i can see i would spend a lot of time making the door shuts on the rear look correct though. a big fat 'wedge' would look wrong so the lip would need to be pulled out to where the M3 arch sits. this would be a horrific amount of faffing though!
does anyone have a link to the red one? i had it saved as in my favourites but the link is now broken

I liked the look of the four door ones but the handle positioning looks all wrong and out of proportion, also the rear glass looks cluttered with all the breaks in it although this is better on the red one. The plan is for one piece glass and the removal of the c pillar with strength added by incorporating roll cage tube (or similar where it wont fit) in the b pillar, sill and from the b pillar back towards the tail light under the window all fitted under the exterior panelwork so it looks stock from the inside and out. Im also wanting to tie the b pillar tubes side to side at the top by a tube bent to go round the back of the sunroof tray and above the headliner, again for a stock look. Thats the plan but since it doesnt appear to have been done before i may have to adapt as i go.

2 door is the way forward for an M3 kit,
as stated already the 4 door doesn't pull it off !
how about using a steel panel instead of the rear window and use it as a 'company van' with your logo on the side !
the first ever E30 M3 van
