205/40/17 is correct

u could go 215 if u wanted
225 might rub because of the offset maybe, but it will go on

225 width is for an 8 inch wide wheel really

Are you sure? I have 8j rear and I have 225/45, you might get too much flex on a 7j :?:

Yeah I would opt for 225 width as-well, the 205/40/17 I have at the mo seems a little narrow on the rim.

i stuck 225x45x17 's on my alpina reps and they looked rediculous, like a clowns comedy car!!!! the45 profile is to high for the 225 width, i ended up settling on yhe 205x40x17,nice and low profile, once again though its personal choice.

only my personal opinion mate, sat next to a 205x40, the 225x45 has a sidewall of nearly twice the height!!! and i had the 205's on the front and the 225's on the back, i had to bin the 225,s

No worries mate, I rekon if I was looking at 17s I would go for 40 too but I am quite happy with the fill of the arch... plus I only just paid for these so no danger of getting rid!! :burn:

I am going to change my rears to 225/40/17 and the fronts (when they need it) to 205/45/17 I think, try and get a little bit of ride quality back. Had a 'rent in the car the other day, not impressed..
