I’ve recently bored out my 60mm M20 b25 throttle body to 64mm and made a new aluminium butterfly to suit, machined at the correct 4 degree angle. This may sound like only a small increase but is in fact 15%. If there’s interest for a small batch or batches then I will produce these for zoners at a decent rate. I can offer this using works machines and my spare time.

The TB’s are getting old and some people seem to be concerned about linkages wearing out and having too much play in them. The play that develops in all honesty has little to no effect on the function of the TB itself.

Bearing this in mind, I’m offering to enlarge your SPARE TB, if you don’t have one, buy one that you’re happy with, for two reasons:

1) I’m doing this in my spare time and how quickly I can do them could vary so I don’t want peoples cars off the road relying on me. I will of course endeavour to finish them ASAP.

2) By not offering them on exchange basis, any play issues in the linkages are solely dependant on your TB.

What will be required is small group to send me their spare TB’s along with payment, 4 people minimum. When there’s enough interest we’ll agree a date when I should have the time to do them ASAP, (for example not before I go on holiday).

I will dismantle, machine, and reassemble your TB and return by recorded delivery. If your’s is already in pieces then send me all the bits, because the butterfly has to be aligned with the TB fully assembled.

When I've finished your throttle body I will contact you for the payment of £60 including return postage via royal mail recorded delivery and a £5 donation to the zone for each body sold.

You could then of course sell your old 60mm body to someone wishing to participate in the next batch. :D

This is the first body produced for a zoner, I'm machining them on a CNC lathe now and am able to profile the entry to allow better airflow.

This is what happens when you try to go above 64mm diameter.

i'll be happy to go ahead if you could get the bare body powdercoated before reassembly. is that possible? obviously the extra cost is not an issue.

I've been mulling over this one. To get engine parts powdercoated properly they will have to be oven cured. With the reduced wall section I'm concerned about distortion during the curing process. I think you would be best off getting your TB powder coated before sending it to me, 'heeltoe' is offerring this service. I'm planning on getting him to powder coat my rocker cover, inlet manifold and support and TB done eventually in mettallic black.

Chin up, matey. It's a bargain price for a nice mod that gives the user a snappier throttle and, if further mods come down the line, really comes into its own. I have not for a single instant regretted getting mine done. And with the cam, head, inlet manifold and MAF...it's all adding up to a perky little motor. :)

Question RE the above TB.
Is fitting one enough to take advantage of the gains, or does the car need to be remapped or suchlike to do so?

By just fitting it, you'll gain more responsiveness.
A slight drop in low-end torque alright but the M20 has enough low end anyway to sacrifice.

The BBTB wasn't worth the original prices like 200 quid they once used sell on an exhange basis but for 60 quid, its a bargain.

Other mods like mentioned above and 2.8 conversions will really make the BBTB show an improvement.

Cheers, I've not invested anything other than making fixtures to do my own TB, so I'm not out of pocket! There's no rush my side, this could still be a nice bit of beer money on the side though.

I've had some inerest for M30 and M50 BBTB's does anyone know how much they could be enlarged by?

Therre's possibly more to come out, I've got a spare I'm going to play with, I think 65.5 maybe 66.0 will probably be the limit. . . The gasket and inlet manifold are not much larger in diameter than this, you can just see in the pics where the gasket sits.

+2mm gives 6% more CSA. I would be interested as i don't want to have to make an adapter for an M30 and have it bored and stuff around with the throttle cable
