How to measure crank position sensor.

Does anyone know how to obtain a reading from a crank position sensor. I have removed both sensors from the bellhousing and I believe you set the multimeter to ohms.
I have tried touching the end of the sensor with the probe and earthing the other with ignition on and whilst cranking etc but nothing is there.

Thanks for the replies, I am getting a reading from left to right as follows, 947,955,74.
I understand the reading on the first two is good enough however I am unsure about the third. It's the one nearest the fuse box.
