Something wrong - unless you only drive to and from the paper shop
I get 20 mpg from my auto Baur with aircon
and 27mpg from my manual cabby with no aircon
both figures average of around town and A/B roads

As I get older I realize that you can't please everyone - pissing everybody off is however a piece of cake

Give it a good service and if it's still shocking, check out the operation of the blue temperature sensor. Having said that I get about 18 on the OBC doing short journeys in the countryside.
E30 Touring 0.35 cD - more slippery than prison soap

As above, the blue temp sensor could be worth checking out.
I changed mine on my m40 318i as it used almost £20 of fuel traveling 35 miles! I now runs much better!

the blue temp sensor is on top of the thermostat housing at the front of the engine. It tells the ECU how much fuel to put in based on engine temp. If it reads incorrectly it will put too much fuel in. They're cheap to buy.

Looks like that but the pic is upsidedown.
Theres a brown one next to it on the top at the front of the engine.
