From research I've done into the subject you will need the key and ignition barrel. The transponder receiver is a ring connected around the ignition barrel and the ews module (which I think is located near the bottom of the steering column on the E36 but not 100%).

Did you know that it's possible to do the conversion with the EWS totally removed from the equation- see zone member UweM3.

Just noticed in your original question about the wiring harness. I would be after the complete loom including fusebox. That way you won't be missing something or find a load of cut wires and wonder where they go. This is why when I do the conversion I will be buying a complete donor car.

cheers taylor for your reply. I think it will be safer to remove the harness from the footwell forward taking with me anthing that looks like a controll unit as i would hate to have left somthing behind. Sounds intresting that you can get it all to work without ews will have to look into this.
m3 3.2 dose it have a vanos controller? if so where is it? dose it have a seperate harness or apart of the engine loom?

Cheers guys :D

you need

Engine loom and ECU

ign key

EWS send/receive module ( under column shroud )

ring antenna ( pops off ign barrel outer ring, barrel not required )

EWS module, should be drivers side underdash area, black box with EWS on it.

cut the connection off from the loom for the EWS box, you will need this part

HTH

PS Ian has LOADS of 3.15:1 diffs, no LSD last I checked though

antenna and send/rec module are on a sub loom so unplug and remove as you go and follow this back to the EWS box.

only the larger AMPseal connector needs to be cut from the donor car, the large plug on the EWS box itself.

just cut off that loom about 6" from the plug.

the output side actually ends up on the car side X20 connector( engine bay side of engine loom ), you will have to replicate this later on but no issue as you'll be fitting a C101 in anycase as part of the swap.

I found this thread when searching for EWS wiring

I'm looking to swap a RHD S50b32 into my 1988 E30M3 (LHD). I have the complete E36M3 donor car and I would like to wire the EWS into my E30. The larger EWS box has alot of wires and I don't have a clue on where to start. After reading this thread, it seems that I will need to cut the ews connector and splice it to my E30. If this is true, does anybody have a wiring schematic to lead me into the right direction?

I know it's possible to have the EWS deleted, but if possible I would like to keep it. Does anyone have a price quote on what it would cost to have it deleted? (just in case I change my mind)

The work will start this weekend and I plan to start my own thread to document the process.

A big thanks to this site for answering alot of my initial questions!!!
