750i lump into E30
Moderator: martauto
Ive had a search but cant find what im looking for soooo.....
Has anyone fitted/considered fitting a 750i V12 into a E30?
Did it work and what were the problems?
Just wondering as recently Ive been having very naughty dreams about an E30, a 5.5l V12, a supercharger and running on methanol or bio ethanol

It's been done and its probably easiest to look on this website.
http://www.e30.de/ click on the motor section, then M70
use google translate if you want

There was at least one conversion on the E30 Zone but I don't know if there's a thread about it anymore.

have you driven a V12 e30 ?N00b wrote:I wouldn't like to take a corner at anything resembling a sporty pace in such a car, as it will be massively nose heavy unless you cut the bulkhead and mount the engine further back.
No i hear you say, thats what i thought.
handlings fine, nothing a decent suspension set up with the right spring rates cant sort out
but the main problem of the conversion is getting a manual box

I,ve been looking into the v12 into e30 with a view to doing it to my tourer.
It has been done a few times, compared to the v8 it's fairly easy. Dips on here had a v12 in his e30, youtube shows a few v12 e30's. The motorsport v12 as used in the 850csi has also been put in a e30. The biggest problem apart from the approx £6000 needed to do it properly, is the gearbox, as the 6 speed manual from the 850csi is very rare and very expense, unless you want the 750i's autobox, in which case you would have to completely remould the transmission tunnel....
So yes it's possible, i have heard a rumour that the m5's 6 speed box will fit.....
As for extra weight up front, its not as heavy as you would think, I'm sure someone on here knows the weight's.
Good luck if you are serious, I'm doing all the other work first, suspension, brakes etc

No, but then I havent been stabbed in the neck with a safari knife either.....but I do know that it would hurt.Kos wrote:have you driven a V12 e30 ?
What does the V12 lump weigh and what does it do for the weight distribution for a road spec car?

i've driven one, and its ok. it was on normal m tech suspension but it wasnt that much different to say an M30 powered e30.
with V12 in there, you dont worry about handling not when you hear the V12 wailing away

Is the engine going back in another E30 or would you be willing to sell the mounts on seperately. If I build one of these Ill most likely get myself a whole 750 as a donor car.
My sentiments exactly. If its rapid as fuck and sounds cool then youll be at the corner before anyone else so no worries.Kos wrote:with V12 in there, you dont worry about handling not when you hear the V12 wailing away
Whoever was saying about brakes and suspension id probably stick some huge discs off a newer M3 on it (with the obvious 5std conversion) then fit them with a set of willwood 6 pots. Suspension is easy enough, get coilovers with adjustiable damping then just keep swapping springs till its happy.
All this talk and pictures is really making me really want one. Mmmm time to start hunting for a damaged 850 or 750going cheep and a clean E30 base

if you're looking to do it, getting the setup from a E30 is the way forward, assuming it's got a manual box fitted. the gearbox is the biggest ballache of fitting a V12.Dum-Dum wrote:Wow you dont live far from me as im a Hayes boy, would of been nice to see the beast in person.dips346 wrote:http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... 12+touring

if a manual gearbox was easy enough and cheap enough to sort, i'd have a LPG powered E34 550i daily diver ouside right now

I dont think im gonna be able to afford his whole set up right now as my pug is being a pain in the backside and costing me loads. That said how much is the engine set up going for?

I have been in the spoox motorsport v12, the sound was awesome. But, not as quick as i expected. Cornering was fine, it is a ally block on them.
It took him over 6 month to fit. I think there's better options personally.

I think it's just overkill. Personally I like the sound of a proper V8 more. And wait till the V12 starts making trouble, especially electronics. It's basically a 2x six cylinder engine with ALL the electronics DOUBLED. That means 2 MAF's to go wrong.
I think the v12 looks ace! I'm planning a v12 converison in the future for my cabrio, but I want to run throttle bodies and either an emerald or megasquirt ecu. The V12 is actually a pretty simple engine, you've only got two cams and two valves per cylinder where you've got four cams and four valves per cylinder on the v8, and the v12 isn't much bigger than the v8 in terms of size, I've had cars with both engines in so I'm pretty use to both. Also the v12 makes more power lower down than the v8, so you hardly have to rev it, you've just got massive amounts of torque not matter what your doing, you just press the go faster pedal and your off, no turbo lag, and no waiting to come on cam. My old 750 would do a ton at just over 2000rpm, and that had an auto box not a six speed manual.
