Hi every one :D . After abandoning my m50 project for over 6 months 8O Ive decided to finish it as I'm renting a workshop again at the end of the month.
I was going to use it as a track/fast road car but now i want to use it for manly drifting days after nearly getting banned in my e30 touring doing silly things around islands.

What I'm after is advice on my suspension at the moment the car has brand new h&r springs and nearly new b8 shocks. I was thinking about either selling this setup and getting some gaz coilovers (the street version) or use the shocks and make my own front and rear coilovers. The reason being i want height adjustment and more stiffness.

so what do you guys think should i just buy the coilovers?

If you want height adjustment you don't have any choice surely??

But when will you actually adjust the height? Do you think you will make the most of it?

Why do you want height adjustment?

I would run stiffer springs with the B8's

Dampers must match the springs, Jhonno, or it'll be stupidly bouncy.

You will probably need a much stiffer setup than H&R/Bilstein for drifting/track work. OE fitment springs can't be made stiff enough and low enough without ending up too short; coilovers can.

second that.

Sell the H&R (which ones exactly?) and B8's for a mainly road going car. Too soft for track IMHO

I have H&R's and a set of B8's and they're too soft for pure track work, great for the road though

He is after a 'streetable' from the sounds of it.. So therefore the B8's will be suited to such springs.

About the max you want to run on B8's is 400lbs on the front, which is a stiff road setup, quite a bit stiffer than the H&R's. Ideal for the brief he appears to have laid out

Hi guys thanks for the comments. I think I'm going for the coilovers as the car will be only used on the road some weekends. So not bothered about bumpy rides. Also then i can set their right height that ill need etc.

Uwe i think their the sport ones but can't remember i know their red tho. As soon as i get the unit sorted and get it on axle stands again they'll be for sale. Might also sell the LSD i bought of yourself! :?

cheers simon

Simon, didn't we SWAP the diffs? Yours is still lying in my garage.

There is always the option for DIY coilovers.

Why the street setup from Gaz then? I would suspect the dampers like the B8's wouldn't be valved for stiff setups..

Jhonno is spot on.

If your looking at the GAZ kits, the street kit really isn't valved for constant track use. The Golds obviously are.

On either kit we can supply any spring rates to suit application

OK thought about it and yes jhonno you are right :o: I'm going to go for the full track type after sorting out what car to use as Ive just bought 2 more e30s  and what parts to sell or keep.

What spring rates would you guys suggest to start with if i was to use them on a touring with an m50 and fullcage? Stripped out obviously.

And does anyone know where i can get a fibreglass sunroof blanking panel or will i just make my own?

cheers simon

For track only, you are looking at 600lb front min, maybe 275lb rear min.. It's a little down to personal preference to be fair
