the lime green machine (www.greenbmw.co.uk) has had its first outing !!! i went to snetterton today with easytrack. apart from the really long drive to get there (3 hrs) and back in one day , i had a good time. I was very tentative at the start as i have never driven the car or circuit before.

The car was very quick in a straight line  (not as quick as the ultima 6.3 litre but he did use about 150 litres of fuel   )
it was not so quick in the twisty bits but that was down to little old me being behind the wheel !!! i am used to driving a seven so the "rock and roll" from the heavier E30 was a bit strange. i will get used to it.

thank goodness the heater blower works - boy it was hot in their today. now i see why you need a removeable liner in you helmet - so you can wash the sweat out of it !!!

now when is the next track day........(i am looking forward to going to Cadwell - its only 30 mins form here and i know the circuit really well)

cheers
Jonathan

hi jonathan - good to meet you - i stopped by mid afternoon and you probably saw me out on track in the black Milltek E30 with the blue grills.
Sounds like you had a good time - hope the track traffic wasn't too bad for you, i have to confess to pushing past you once or twice while following a caterham type car, thanks for lifting off down the straight. :D
I'm sure you'll get to grips with the chassis and tyre limits very soon. Snetterton seemed to be all about carrying the speed through the corners

Helmet liner - maybe get a nomex balaclava, the cheaper ones aren't too expensive and are easy to wash.

cheers, Richard / Calder

Hi J,

Nice pics and I see the passenger side window open for some extra 'air', it can get seriously hot in there especially with the full face helmet on. I'm in the process of getting a FF lid and I'm just going to get a balaclava to absorb the sweat...Nice!!

Looking good though mate and nice to see the photos were taken just after you had passed the Elise and MX5 8)
The Isle of Man: No National Speed Limit, No Gatso's, No Nanny State, a disused airfield track 1.5 miles long, the best mountain road to drive on...Come and Play!

ERRR -i think the cars behind had caught me up !!1 i was rather slow in the corners as i was not used to the car.

it was my first track day in tne beemer - i have done a few in my other car (robin hood seven - 140bhp) but the dynamics of the E30 were totally different. I was higher up, it rolled more (not too much once i wound the suspension up a bit), it was very hot and i need to move the steering wheel out on a boss i think as i was struggling with reach on the really tight corners.

off the cadwell on 22nd sept and again on 19th nov (check out easytrack day for 19th nov ONLY Ԛ£79 FOR THE FULL DAY !!!!!)
