cooling fan

e36 328i fan... only just fits. I mean literally you can't get a fag paper between the fan and the chassis! its 16" iirc.

I remember reading that some one had used a viscous and used a strap on the back of the gbox.willnz wrote:e34 a/c fan plus i used the viscous fan on mine as well
Was this you?
If so do you have any pics of how you did it?
I like the idea of using the viscous as well.

Iknow it wouldnt be easy but some pics of the strap, rubber mounts and viscous fan would be greatwillnz wrote:Yes, I did that. I used the standard e36 328i radiator and a viscous fan blade that was quite thin (dont know what BMW I got it off, have wrecked too many to remember). I also had to trim the ends of the fan blade to allow it to clear the lhs radiator tank. if you go to my post http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... highlight= there are a couple of pics of the engine bay.bimanut wrote:I remember reading that some one had used a viscous and used a strap on the back of the gbox.willnz wrote:e34 a/c fan plus i used the viscous fan on mine as well

Fan is close to the radiator core (probably 20mm) so I anchored the gearbox using a woven earth strap to the chassis so it wouldnt be able to move foward under sudden braking. The woven strap also wouldnt transfer vibrations through to the body like a solid mount would.
Motor is mounted on standard e36 engine mounting arms onto e28 M5/535 rubber mounts.
if you want better details i can take some close-up pics.

I'm after an electric fan setup too and was wondering if there is a plug and play ish bmw offering. I suppose the e36 pusher fan is the one to go for but what would i do in terms of plugging it in and as far as mounting it would it mount to my e34 radiator ok?

Plug and play would be an E30 aircon electric fan, complete with loom to the fusebox.
