Hi,

Went to the show at Tatton on Saturday, was a good show, the weather was quality and there was some really nice stuff there.

Now i often here of people after 325i sports and i wander if they are serious or not?

I spoke to this lad who had a gorgeous metalic black one, under the bonnet was like brand new, it was class.

He was telling me 18 months ago he paid 5250 for it has spent another 1800 in last 6 months and is now selling it due to the dreaded 'new house' for 4500. He said hed had it in the trader but no one had called! nor had he had anyone of pistonheads etc!

Is the market dead or is this one unlucky guy? I put mine up for sale at 4250 and again not much interest, in my case i will just keep it rather than give it away. But has the ass fell out of the sport market?

The market is as strong as ever, but you are pricing yourselves out of it at those prices in my opinion. Unless you got absolute minters and attract the real enthusiasts I dont think you'll get over 3k.

Agree with Peejay about the prices. There are good M3's selling on ebay at the mo for not much over 4 grand.

It doesn't matter how good the car is, 2nd hand car values have dropped alot in the last few years and despite having a certain classic car value, there are still a lot of E30s around. I'm considering buying an M3 and reckon I could get a suitable one for Ԛ£4-Ԛ£5.

y not?

id happily run a sport as a daily, i wudnt even consider running an M3 like that.

very different sort of cars, plus Ԛ£4k buys a really good sport but Ԛ£5k only buys a decidely average M3

no i understand that using a m3 as a daily.

all im getting at is only enthusiasts will pay 4k plus. this means that simply by market demand the price will decrease.

and also read the description of the black one

no history up until 2000
dented bonnet
central locking fecked
scorpion exhaust which needs to go
paint on rear wing and other dents
and the various scuffs etc you are to expect from a car of this age says the owner
well thaere will be more for sure and we havent even looked at jacking points ,scuttle, arches or heard it run
then theres the age old suspension woes, cracked subframe etc etc

5 grand bid and won

5 more to put it all right

believe me these cars at this age will needԚ£Ã”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£s

that one for 5k or a sorted one for 9-10k makes no difference they all end up costing the same

also its a 195 bhp model

Jon, you could well be right...and since I own an M3, I hope you are...but realistically I know I bought one and saw 4 others all less than Ԛ£5k...Sure none was mint, but only one was a dog (rusty footwells and arches) and one needed a bit of care on the inside (badly worn leather)....The others were good, useable cars that could benefit from detailing.

Since I bought mine, it has needed a water pump and rad cap (<Ԛ£200)...I fixed the 6btn OBC by buying a s/h one (Ԛ£30), replaced the bushes in the gear linkeage (Ԛ£10) and replaced the slow-speed fan resistor (Ԛ£12).

It needs the paint on the rear wing re-done (they all crack seen Ԛ£9k cars with cracked paint) and it would need the drivers seat bolster re-trimmed for a small tear, only I'm going to put some sparco race seats in it for track days...

Everything else works as it should and the car feels taught and the engine sounds smooth and sweet (well as much as any S14 can)...

It is possible...

i guess its all down to what anyone is willing to accept as a good car for that money

dont get me wrong i dont feel that the dearer the car means automatically its miles better
i looked at an evo sport for 17k and it had halfords service stamps in the book FFS!

but a lack of ongoing maintenance in previous years will tell and it will catch up with the car sure there are exceptions but a large majority of non historied 4-5 k cars are money pits waiting to happen

A Ԛ£4k Sport will get you less than 90k miles (both of which those M3's were knocking on), with almost every extra - leather interior etc etc, which you'll probably find is in MINT condition, as you're paying for a mint sport.

Jon has already pointed out the main bits on that black M3, what caught my eye was the sharktooth interior and lack of rhr. Also, it's a trader! woohoo

Now the red one..didn't meet reserve, which could be over Ԛ£5k, advertised as a track car - why? Probably not up to scratch to be a daily!
Towbar! Whole car under stress from towing, clotch interior with slack bolsters and no rhr and a dirty carpet, knackered steering wheel.

I know for some people using an M3 as a daily driver isn't a prob, don't get me wrong, I'd drive Jon's or Simon's M3 all day long but not round here - it would be too much hassle for LHD. (And the fact they're minters I wouldn't want no one touching them or attacking them, damn pikies they're just everywhere!!)
A mint sport would be ok as a daily, obviously still under attack from wandering fingers, but in comparison to a mint M3 it's not as much of an issue. Just my 2p :)

Thanks guys. Im a perfectionist i couldnt drive a sheddy M3 i would rather have a mint sport. But it horses for courses.

I will prepare the car proper and hope someone fancies one that is nice, standard and well looked after.

I've seem ones for 2.5k which are absolute shite and need about 1000 spending on them. When this is done theyll still be shite they will just start and run as they should.

I will hold out for what its worth IMO. I realise its top end of the market and as such demand will be less. Ive had a few emails from Ireland which seem promisising.........

best of luck with the sale
if the car is mint you will get your money

i know 3 sports at least off this board have sold in the last 9 months, mine included, that were mint and all of them have fetched more than you are asking

all were sold pretty quick mine in less than a week and others not even advertised

in this kind of condition they are rare and there are people prepared to pay what the cars are worth

I'm happy to accept a slightly sheddy M3 because I don't want a mint car that needs cherishing. Mechanically they're pretty simple, hence I don't even mind buying one with lack of history. Hence I think I can find one int Ԛ£4-Ԛ£5K range. The plan would be similar to this iS I've got really, just with more power out of the box. Only downside would be mpg but I don't see why an M3 can't manage respectable mpg if driven normally. Must be more efficient than the 325 engine?

I agree that if you want a very clean car to look after then a 325Sport is worth more than some M3s.

M3 MPG is much better than my 325i ever was when taking it easy, but when booting it, it's a different story!

concur 100%

My M3 does around 25-27mpg on a mixed bag of roads and conditions when driven normally, but my 325i only manages around 23-24mpg on the same routine...

However, on long motorway journeys the 325 can match the M3 or even slightly better it...especially at high speeds...Going for it on back roads then the 325 might be ever so slightly more economical, but there isn't a lot in it...
