The pipe in question is just by the throttle body on an M20 325i.As pictured below is the lovely throttle body.

Here is the dodgy pipe which i have no idea what it is...wild guess is it has something to do with the...injection?? :?

Now,say i have driven for about 20 minutes. After the drive i pop the bonnet. You are 100% guranteed that this pipe will have been forced out of position somehow as pictured below. I am preety sure to that this has a direct effect on my dodgy idleing problems!

Can i get a replacement? How much are they? What is this pipe for?

Your advise is very much appreciated. :thumb:

That's a breather pipe, I wouldn't worry about the top one so much, just make sure the bottom one is OK.

I did a thread a while back, the early throttle body only has one hole for the breather (the bottom one) whilst the later throttle body has a hole for 2. I ended up drilling up a hole for the top pipe - and it does exactly the same as what yours does. Just seal it with something, it's not like you'll take it off again (unless you get a Zone throttle body).

Judging by the way the car idles when its popped back in,i would say its designed to stay put.

This pipe is a common cause of air leaks thus causing dodgy idling. It should be sealed in.

Anything that can form an air-tight seal will do as long as it is solid enough.
I would recommend Loctite or similar.

Nice one guys.

Thanks for the ideas. 8)

I think i will proberbly go for the tape option as i dont want to permenently seal it on just yet as the BBTB is in the piplines. Makes for easy access no?
