I seen a few pictures like this and was wondering what causes the turbo unit to get so hot that it glows orange. Is it photoshopped or are they just driving everywhere on overboost or something does anybody have any other pictures like this

Naa that'll easily happen with many turbo cars, especially cars that have been tuned higher, i.e. higher EGT's.
It only takes a warm blown engine a good 30 seconds or so under full load to start getting the turbo glowing.

pretty standard.
About 15 years ago a mate of mine had a Renault 11 Turbo and it was bone stock. After a good thraping one night we pulled up and lifted the bonnet and the turbo was glowing cherry red, I actually managed to light a fag off it, but nearly burnt my face off from the heat coming from it

Also, digital cameras are often more sensetive to infra-red and make the manifold appear to glow more... Sometimes appears purple-ish too. Looks cool.
