Electric Cooling Fan Conversion...?

i am looking to do an electric fan conversion, what fan would be easiest to fit?

Go onto Kenlowe's website and send them an email. They will tell you the best fan for your car.

Many people on here however opt to stick with the viscous fan as it seems an electric one doesn't offer many benefits...

I prefer the viscous fan to electric but if you do go electric the E34/32 aircon fan fits perfect

Or a Peugeot 306 diesel fan, fits no probs

I use one from a vauxhall cavalier 1.7td fitted in front of the rad on bespoke alloy mountings and an adjustable Revotec controller

Any of the larger fans from Kenlowe,Spal and Pacet will be sufficient for your needs

If your doing this to a 4 pot lump then I have a leccy fan available which is already mounted into the fan shroud.Just needs wiring.

cheers for that guys, and BadDave... sorry mate, you'll never catch me behind a 4pot. not while i have a 320 with 196bhp that returns 43mpg on sensible driving. i love this car lol... i'll have a wonder round the scrappy next week and browse the 306's and e34's as there are plenty, all the cav's have been destroyed by chavs with cavs that wont stop denting them round my area lol

Got a 16" slim one on mine, light and works a treat on a thermostat!

It doesnt 'weigh a tonne' at all, it will draw large current when on high speed as its a fairly large motor, but if your engine is hot enough to warrant high speed then is that a bad thing? If you wire the BMW fan as intended it will be more efficient than the average single speed fan

I have an e36 328i fan that only just fits

I wasn't referring to the power alone.
THAT power with THAT economy from an old 6 cyl petrol motor doesn't happen.

And a 316 with a 24v conversion isn't really a 316 anymore is it.

No, but i certainly wouldn't refer to it as a 316 anymore.

I have my 316i with a 525i engine, you wouldnt call it a 316i and you wouldnt call it a 525i - what would you call it? Its not a 12v engine so you can't really call it a 325i. The dvla recognise it as a 2494cc 316i - as do the insurance company. I call it the m50 to mates who understand my insanity and the 316i to look less sad to other peasants who don't understand the joy of owning it.

316i is the model name - nothing more and nothing less. If it was born a 316i, it stays a 316i, whatever engine it may have in it.

lol obviosly a 'tonne' was an exagertion to those with a slight sense of humor, but it is bloody heavy. I'd rather stick to my light weight single speed anyday
