Feck. Read that on the vanos you need to remove the vanos to get to it but can't find out about the nv. The tensioner I'm on about is between the inlet and exhaust pulleys - is that the same one as your saying?

Ah you mean the tensioner for the secondary chain, I read 'secondary tensioner' :)

Its a piece of p1ss, you need to take the sprockets off but if you mark everything with paint you cant go wrong 8)

Thats me being "special" :chuckle:

Glad to hear that its easy, are you able to sort it with just the rocker rocker off? You're probably the man to ask though, are there any good books / websites that teach you about stripping these engines down and rebuilding them? I've got a bit of a dream conjuring up :)

You don't need the special BMW tool to lock the camshafts you can do it this way....

Nope, even Bob used the BMW tool. He's sleeping with the guys in the parts department at our local dealer though - so they lent it to him in return for something.......!

They probably heard what happened when he tried to time up an M42 and thought they would do him a favour and lend him the right tool...

Quite possibly, when we went to help Lee with his M52 touring we saw Bob cut a piece of wood with a hammer 8O

I am even thought I had to do the following jobs where you and your hammer had been before me....

- 1 engine to box stud snapped off in block.
- 1 other engine to box stud snapped off and drilled out including the thread.
- Dodgy idle - cured by fitting the correct no of bolts to the throttle body
- Oil leak - fitted the missing O ring to the dipstick tube also attaching the dipstic tube to something instead of leaving it floating around.
- wiring, used about a mile of shrink wrap where you pulled it out without disconnecting it (Daz?)
- Oil leak - replaced missing bolts from sump
- fitted correct number of bolts to engine mounts

:P

Ahh but if you use the 'special tool' - that will be where the IS engingine gets all that extra power from that makes it the baby M3!

Not moaning Dan - any excuse to have a dig at his Skubskiness can't be missed :D
