Ok guys, I have two 318iS's - I want to know if I can (easily) transfer the electrical sunroof mechanism from one car to the other car (which has manual sunroof).
Anyone done this before?
Is is possible/easy?

this should prove to be an easy task as you have both cars at your disposal, you only need to change the winder handle for the motor and then feed the wiring down the pillar to the multiplug behind the glovebox, you will have to swap the black roof panel too, theres probably a fuse to swap over too
No longer self employed but still available for welding duties.
cheers chaps!
so job done
i had to cut out the front section of the head lining so the donor section would fit (its kinda a black plastic/leather thing). pulled the manual winder... but then it got hard! the mounting plate that the metal cables goes through is different on manual to motor...
so had to change that as well - but to do that you gotta drill out a couple of rivet things - and then spotted theres a captive nut on the motor version where the winder is in a slighly diff possion and lower. bugger... so took a chunk out the motor housing and managess to get the bolt to fit.
wiring was simple - in fact one single bullet connector! and good old bmw have left the female bit of it on the loom ready to plug in... nice
put the new trim on and screwed down the wind deflector and jobs a goodun!
oh yea - also the donor had no check control so modified it to allow it to be fitted (in the same spot).
cheers!

Change the whole mechanism over complete with cable guide tubes, leaving the cable inners in place. A lot easier to do than it looks.Huge wrote:Ok guys, I have two 318iS's - I want to know if I can (easily) transfer the electrical sunroof mechanism from one car to the other car (which has manual sunroof).

Is there a way of setting it all up equal both sides, as I noticed the cables can move with the motor out?
