I have just bought back my old 335i Touring and the clutch is slipping.
The car was built with an e34 doner so I am geussing it will have a dual mass flywheel, I want to convert it to e28 single mass.
Anyway, where is the best/cheapest place to buy a clutch? I tryed euro today but even through work it was £150 + vat.
Any ideas or is that as good as I will get?
M30 clutch?

E28 clutches are very expensive, i'm glad in a way my recent clutch problems were in fact the flywheel bolts falling out
at least the cluch survived ok!
i got a recon one for about £110 iirc though a local motor factors - came in a ferodo box.
i've not seen any cheaper.
if you're looking for a E28 flywheel too, it might be worth talking to RPM on here. i think they were doing lightweight flywheels recently for the M30 but these take the cheaper E34 M30 clutch
oh, when you do it, theo gave me a top tip. drop the subframe and engine an inch or two on some longer M12 bolts and you can get access to the bellhousing bolts... just. not a fun or pleasant job though

Or losen the mount nuts, drop the prop and tilt the engine back and take the g/box out that way, it's easier, i've done it 3 times, and going to be doing it again to drop in a lightened M30 fly.oh, when you do it, theo gave me a top tip. drop the subframe and engine an inch or two on some longer M12 bolts and you can get access to the bellhousing bolts... just. not a fun or pleasant job though

no good on mine, i'd only get 5mm rearwards on the head before the rocker cover pressed into the bulkhead.Rav335uk wrote:Or losen the mount nuts, drop the prop and tilt the engine back and take the g/box out that way, it's easier, i've done it 3 times, and going to be doing it again to drop in a lightened M30 fly.oh, when you do it, theo gave me a top tip. drop the subframe and engine an inch or two on some longer M12 bolts and you can get access to the bellhousing bolts... just. not a fun or pleasant job though
with my engine in position, the bellhousing bolts press into the sound deadening

My bulkhead saw a light tap with the biggest mallet I could find, and also I lost some of the sound deadening, and it's in pos 3 too.gareth wrote:no good on mine, i'd only get 5mm rearwards on the head before the rocker cover pressed into the bulkhead.Rav335uk wrote:Or losen the mount nuts, drop the prop and tilt the engine back and take the g/box out that way, it's easier, i've done it 3 times, and going to be doing it again to drop in a lightened M30 fly.oh, when you do it, theo gave me a top tip. drop the subframe and engine an inch or two on some longer M12 bolts and you can get access to the bellhousing bolts... just. not a fun or pleasant job though
with my engine in position, the bellhousing bolts press into the sound deadeningthe only clearance available is by dropping the lot downwards. depends on engine position and bulkhead massaging i guess. my bulkhead has never seen a hammer and the engine is in P2.5 on e30.de mounts

Thanks for the input, I tried euro again today for an e34 clutch and even thats £115+ vat through work!
I don't know why but I thought they would have been alot cheaper for some reason.
