HI ... after fitting the aluminium rings to the dials, my temp gauge needle isn't sitting where it should. So now at standard operating temp the gauge shows just under the first line !! At rest it is far too much to the left and if you look at the pics it will only travel just past halfway. Is there any way to "recalibrate" it to sit in the middle ???
It did suffer a small knock during the addition of the rings .....

Thanks,

Looks like it's slipped on it's shaft. Push the needle over to the right so that it ends up with the needle on cold when you let it back again.
Failing that, the gauge is easily changed. Someone on here will sell you one for a few pennies.

Thanks for that .... looks like it did the trick .... didn't know if it would break something if I just pushed it.
Didi you see my earlier question about the two leads that plug into the back of the unit into the green socket ? There is one blue lead and one blue witha yellow stripe ... can't remember which goes where !!!
Any clues on that Brian ??

Never seen anything connected to the green socket. In fact the green socket itself is usually missing.
Only thing I know about it (IIRC), is that several of the pins are joined together.
May be talking rubbish, but i think I read somewhere that the cruise control gets its speed signal from here.

The green plug is a pretty easy one. I only had one wire going to it on my 318i, and was worried when I saw all the places for it to go, but the wires, at least the ones that people actually *HAVE* are shaped, so they only go in one possible socket.

If you have a look at the green plug, one hole has two slanted edges and a notch, one has a single slanted edge and a notch, one has a rounded edge and no notch etc. Its a one way thing, so easy to sort out. Whatever it fits in, should be the only thing it can fit in, though the differences in the plugs are very small in some cases.

Thanks for the replies .... must have a different set up ... the green socket has about 6 or 7 possible connectors that can fit it .... the two I am on about are oblong but with one end sort of rounded ... two wires and 3 possible holes for them to fit .... the other sockets are a different shape.
Bearing in mind it's left hand drive the blue wire goes behind dash towards the right and the other goes left presumably twards the cruise box under the bonnet.
