I wonder if the time for true enthusiasts to own M3s has passed and now they're just an object for collectors / dealers.
I've been kind of in the market for one for about 2 years or so but just can't see how they're worth the mad money decent ones command, especially when the same money can get you some serious metal.

I don't think so generally speaking. I bought mine six years ago just before the poo hit the fan and the guys I meet that have one are pretty much in the same boat. You tend to find the ones that have them have always liked them, therefore actually bought one.Royalratch wrote:I wonder if the time for true enthusiasts to own M3s has passed and now they're just an object for collectors / dealers.

However, I can see your point, if something becomes cool or sought after then a certain minority do/will buy them just as a collectors item or to sell on at a profit.

But when your done with it you'll always get your money back? The great thing about e30 M3's is the LHD bit. Which makes selling them easier as you have a europe wide market. Its europe and mainly germany that have driven up the prices so i'm told
I've never understood why they've been much cheaper than a quattro or Lancia Deltas for so long seeing as they are much more reliable. S14's are a mega tough engine

Simon,
Get an M3, I've had so many people say they used to own them and wished they HADN'T sold them.
Stick with the S14, CF airbox, cams and exhaust with some mapping from me and you'll have a car you can go shopping in and race the best of them round the 'Ring
Just DO IT!

My mate got a 65K miles one for just under £13G.
That's a bargain.
But people are asking £15G+ for 100,000+ milers - that's where it gets silly for me.

Si listen to sheps..
The people who own them say buy one.. the people who don't own one say they don't understand.. cold hard facts against hear-say.
They are worth what you want to pay and there is plenty out there!

it makes more sense to me that people are willing to pay 10, 12, 15k+ for e30 m3s that the hundreds of thousands happy to spunk that on mundane depreciating white goods with 4 wheels (astras, focus' and the like)
cheers,

Now that's a real ROFL, LOL etc etc...
Totally agree with that, but as long as buyers are prepared to pay these sums, sellers will continue to ask them...Royalratch wrote:My mate got a 65K miles one for just under £13G.

Pacerpete once told me it was standard procedure to give the M3's a "haircut" whilst coming back on the ferry from Europe, done by the people bringing them over here originally. So how can any M3's milage be guaranteed as I bet most for sale will only have UK history with them...
Si,
Having currently both an e30 m3 and a C2 2.7 they are both totally different type of cars. I also had a daily road E30 M3 that I put on over 250K miles which i sold and is now in Hong Kong and is not a day that I wished I did not sell it. I`m fortunate enough to have another, a stripped out track rat with a few mods to warm it up a little. Those that have been a passenger in the car and also have e30`s that they track can`t believe the difference to their cars.
For long trips on the motorway I would choose the pina over the m3 anyday and everyday, but the moment you hit the end of the slip road I would want the M3. The m3 when driven right is so rewarding, predictable, and handles like you could not believe. Yes, being a left hooker takes a little getting use to, but you soon overcome it. The biggest draw back for the M3 is the cost of spares anything with the S in front of it for that matter. If you want to go faster instead of x times £100.00 for m20 parts its now x times £1000.00 for S14 parts. Its all right in the bginning leaving it standard, but once tracked and confidence grows will want 250, 280 and 300bhp. The m3 is very addictive and once hooked you seldom let go. If you buy one, you will soon forget the pina.
The only reason I keep my C2 2.7 is to remind me how good the m3 is. I went to Brands a few years ago and took both the M3 and the pina to back to back track days, needless to say I spent most of the afternoon asleep in pit garage the day i had the pina there. Enough said.
Next time i`m out at Abingdon, come along for a PX lap, it won`t dissapoint.
cheers
Dave

I have a customer who has just dropped off thier B10 3.5 Alpina for mapping and they said they had an M3 which they wished they never sold... on the look out for another. His was a D'reg, Laches silver with black leather, mint and he got £14k for it! Mind you, his E28 'pina is mint too
My point is - yet another ex E30 M3 owner who wished he didn't sell..

I'll second this, Dave's M3 is a proper chariot and he is the pilot it deserves!DawieM3 wrote: Those that have been a passenger in the car and also have e30`s that they track can`t believe the difference to their cars.

just look at mk 1 and 2 escorts for the answer to that question, the E30 is the last of the drivers cars being relatively light weight rear wheel drive and simply engineered. A friend has some old magazines where escorts are changing hands for £800-£3000 depending on spec and now your going to need £3000 for a bucket of rust and a lot of heartache.glenn wrote:imagine where M3 price's will be, in say.........10 years, or even 20years ?
there are people scrapping cars now with not a lot wrong with them who will be watching prices soaring thinking "bugger" but then its thanks to these people driving numbers down that the ones left will increase in value. If youre buying an M3 as an investment i think the peak time has passed however they will still steadily climb and achieve silly figures.
Go get one now Simon before the cost of buying it puts you off doing what you want to buy it for in the first place
No longer self employed but still available for welding duties.
House or m3? That's the choice I made 8 years ago.. Since my house is 100% mine and appreciated by 80k, I'm glad I left the M3 idea alone!! Which is why I don't listen to the fools who say my iS is a baggoshoite
Do it.. I'm working on one, but bricks and mortar were higher on my list of priorities.
Listen to what Hammond has to say, and go with your gut feeling Si
