Bloody insurance!!!
Moderator: martauto
Im trying to get insurance on my 1989 325 Motorsport cab and everyone messing me about. I wanna get agreed value insurance but everyone saying I need classic car insurance but that means 6,000 miles a year or less...thats no good, I'm gonna double that!
Adrian Flux saying my car gonna be worth 4k [non agreed value]....bullshit, I aint ever gonna get a good condition Motorsport for 4k!!! But they dont do classic car insurance over 6,000 miles.
What do you lot do? You got normal insurance and hoping nothing ever happens to your car cos you would never get your dosh back?

there are 2 companies I can suggest who may be able to help, although I don't have their specific contact details, a quick bit of searching on t'internet should bring you a result.
One is called "Driect Choice" used to be called Taylor Price. The other are called Firebond. Also try one called Sureterm Direct.
One of them should be able to sort you out fella. Would be interested to learn how you get on.

it really annoys me when insurers ask you for a value on your car when insuring it as all the sods will pay you out for is "market value" if you make a claim. Unless of course you have an agreed value policy.
It's always worth sticking an extra Ԛ£1K on the value when asked for when getting a quote IMO

I used to be with firebond a few years ago and they were pretty good, then all of a sudden after three years without so much as a phone call to them the quotes started to go up so i dumped them.
They were underwriten by Eagle star at the time, may be worth going direct to them.

There is NO nucleus.
That the problem t11mfn. You can tell them its worth 9k but if the car was killed, they would give you the book value - Adrian Flux say 4k!!!
I tried Firebond, they saying I can't have classic insurance [with agreed value] for more than 6k miles a year.
Will try some of the others...cheers guys.

Try Footman James 0121 561 4196 or 0845 330 1662. Have always provided good quotes tp me over the years, and understand more about enthusiast/classic etc.

Ok, Lancaster WILL insure me with an agreed value, the only problem is its Ԛ£709.30. Adrian Flux have given me a quote of Ԛ£455, though with no agree value [but would I wanna risk only getting 4k back if I was in an accident?].
I can get GAP insurance from Munich Legends [to cover the other 4k for the car] at a cost of Ԛ£282.......so Ԛ£282 + Ԛ£455 = Ԛ£737.
It would seem Lancaster would be the better bet, though if I leave Adrian Flux they will give me less of a refund on my current policy [Ԛ£100 less], so the difference between the 2 quote is nothing. So so complicated!!!
What to do???
Will try some of the other companys you lot have recommended.

they don't Brian, until you have a claim, then they would ask for mot certificates. So a disconnected speedo would cure the problem

I've got half a dozen spare instrument clusters showing assorted and various odiometer readings, a little switch to switch off the motor that drives the odiometer shouldn't be too technicaly challenging, and in any case E30s are pretty easy to clock.(So I've heard, officer).

a 4k payout on an old E30 bmw is how the insurance company sees it. thats awsome for a normal insurance policy though?!
would be lucky to get 2k if my sport was written off i expect.
(but it's only worth Ԛ£750 according to some on here)
Buglife u trying for the best of both worlds?! normal insurance with agreed value right? sounds a good idea, but one that could cost a bit more each year?

disconnect the speedo after 5500 miles to keep within the limit, then connect it back up at mot time. use a speed camera detector that has a digital display so you know how fast you are going, such as Roadangel.

i know its dodgy but ive lost out big time in the past to insurance companys, so they they are fair game for any dodgies. wether you plan to sell it on with an incorrect mileage is a different matter and one for your own conscience!!! i personally dont have an agreed milage policy so it doesnt affect me!!!
Only one company I have called [Lancaster] will do normal insurance with an agreed value Simon, and yeah it is more expensive - Ԛ£709. Every other insurance company will only do agreed value insurance up to the 6,000m miles.
I think I know what I'm going to do. Go with Adrian Flux [Ԛ£455], cos I get a good Ԛ£370 refund from them on my current policy if I stay with them - so I only have to find an extra Ԛ£85. Then to make sure I get the money I paied for the car back if I have an accident; get the GAP insurance from Munich Legends - an extra Ԛ£282, though that cover is from 3 years so next year I'll only have to pay Adrian Flux the Ԛ£455, not Ԛ£700+ to Lancaster. I got a phone number to call today to find out more about the GAP insurance [I had it on my New Beetle from the dealership but didn't really know much about it]...What I wanna know is if I crash my car, or its robbed etc, will GAP give me the extra 4.5k to put towards Adrian Flux's 4k so I can buy another Motorsport cab? That the point of it, so I'll find out.

I thought the purpose of GAP cover was to make up any shortfall if you had your car on finance and it got written off, but the write off figure was not enough to settle the finance outstanding.
I would double check with Munich Legends that a GAP policy will actually do this, otherwise you may find you pay Ԛ£300 for the cover only to find they won't settle the difference if you don't owe finance on the car. I may be wrong, but it is defo worth checking this out before proceeding mate.
If Munich Legends are selling this cover then that means you could get it cheaper through another broker etc as ML will be getting commission for the sale of the policy and a broker will probably be able to get you same cover for less, even though they get a bit of commission too.

Yep BeemerLad, I just been looking up GAP on the net and it does mention finance. I havn't got finance on the car but Munich Legends wouldn't of mentioned it if it wasn't an option...and also the prices I found are a lot cheaper. I'm gonna give this guy a call in a bit so I'll see what he says?
This is just getting bloody stupid - just been talking to the guy who sorts GAP insurance for ML and he said I cant get GAP for cars over 7 years old...FCUKIN SIHT. Obviously ML don't sell much GAP?
Now I only got one bloody choice, pay Lancaster Ԛ£709 cos they the only people how will do agreed value insurance for 12,000 miles.
Its a bloody joke. All the insurance companies are pretty much saying you cant own a classic car if you gonna use it as your main car less you wanna risk only getting a small amount of your dosh back if its written off.
BOLLOX!!!

Then send pics of your car to the BMW car club and get them to give you a agreed value. So if in the future you do have a claim you can back up the market value.

Insurance this year on my M3 was difficult even with restricted mileage and NOT agreed value....still paying Ԛ£550 for 5000 miles covered by NIG (Skandia). Forget the big insurers with a LHD M3, so only those offering classic car insurance are interested......ironically, the big insurers will cover my car but only through independent brokers it seems.
My car will become a daily driver at some stage soon and I reckon I will have a very hard time getting insurance for this.....
Just all remember, all insurance is a money making business and they will do their very best to get your business if the risk to them is at the minimum....you pays you monies and if you need to claim, that is when the real fight begins....any and every trick in the book NOT to pay out....whether your fault or not!
