Well finally got her up and running this week, now engine bay is sort of finished, needs cleaning up and a few trims putting back together.

i need to get a new top plastic cover, along with the clips that hold it in place, also the plastic clips which sit inside the rocker cover covers.

also need the sound deadning stuff which sits on the bulk head aswell.

what you guys think now?

good progress shaz

i did have fun with this engine when it was in colins car. what diff ratio are you running and what's the score with the brakes , still non servo ? i actually thought the non servo brakes were fine, gave lots of feel and feed back

re these quotes

the 3 issues you have to over come are

1, finding a manual bog
2, brakes, either non serov or remote servo
3, manifold clearance

i didnt make it, a design combinaton between colin, me and i helped build it. it gave the car an extra 13bhp, not bad at all.

re brakes, i found them just fine, takes bit of extra effort, but the feed back is good.

sounds about right winkeye

i'd say its too tall personaly, with a 3.64 you will top out at 145-150 in 5th, but you'll get there a LOT quicker. IIRC col had i 3.15.

lets be honest, when if ever are you going to pull more than 140mph ? :D

i've geared my 2.8 compact a bit shorted than what it should be, its supposed to have a 2.97, but i run a 3.25 LSD........ and still pull to 140mph quickly , no point aiming to 155 when it needs a LOOOOONG old run up to get there ! besided, 2nd 3rd and 4th are where its at on the road

Jason @ B&W chiptune in hounslow. he's got a 4.4 X5 he's spent ages mapping and getting the best out of it, so he'll be on the ball with your V8

give him a bell, tell him I sent you his way and he'll look after you.

PM on its way

manual box tbh ill prob end up buying a whole car ill break the rest to recoupe a bit of cashola
remote servo - there are a couple of conversions that you have to do this iirc??
manifold - probably just end up getting one made i know a few people who can sort this.

Shaz - would there be a chance of coming and having a look when she's all up and running???

I reckon you'd actually get there faster because all you'd do in the first two-three gears is making smoke with your backtires..

I've 3.07 with my 6-speed M5 box (longer 1. gear than in normal 540) and it doesn't suffer from "too long ratios" at all. Much nicer to cruise around too when the revs are quite low.. There's more than enough torque in low-revs u' know ;)

Buying whole car is by far the best option, that way you're sure to get all the parts you need, and also the cheapest option.

Relocating the servo is a "must" if you want to retain it. Other option is just to use pedalbox (race cars only).

There're many good and different examples on www.e30.de ;)

with gearing its about trying them ouy and see what suits you best.

when i had time in colins car, it was runing a 3.15 with the 5sp. 17" and 215/40 tyres. dry grip was fine, but felt it was a bit too log for me. admitiadly a 3.64 would possibly be too short and make 1st almost useless, the rest would be balistic

maybe a 3.38 or 3.25 whould be suitable improvement over what shaz already has.

Shaz, I still have the dyno printout somewhere, I'll see if I can scan it over to you.

Gearing wise, i felt it was fine. But could do with 6th to make the highway cruising easier. But in 5th, just plant it and it's just below the peak torque and all of about .5 seconds then it would howl!

3.6 was verging on useless, but still fun!

Need to find the vid of Aces... Eh Kos? ;)
