Did anyone see the English Mechanics programme on Sky tonight, where some young sap bought what he thought was an E36 M3 convertible, which turned out to be a 328i - the seller had removed the (presumably fake) ///M badge from the bootlid and stuck it onto the rocker cover!

It was overheating, so he took it to English Mechanics garage in Marbella, and they discovered a few stripped cylinder head bolt threads in the block.

They repaired it by boring out the block threads to 16mm and inserting brass sleeves, then drilling/tapping these to the original 14mm.

The end of the programme showed the same car returned to the garage a few days later with overheating issues again!

i've seen that episode a couple of times, poor young gullible squaddie.

the car then came back again because it "broke down". it had run out of petrol.
still, it all helps jock's brand new M5 fund winkeye

Where abouts is it? I keep looking but not found it yet. Is it on the Industrial Zone on the Fuengirola side of town?

Jocks home town is about 20miles from Edinburgh.

His black M5 has been seen around town, with him driving it.

If your coming down the carratera (sp?) from Fuengirola. You go under the Mabella sign. And it's on the industrial estate there. From memory anyway.

They do come across as being spectacularly amateurish at times :? I'd only ever take a car there if I was absolutely desperate!

I've watched a fair few of these when I was out of work. He has had some very good guys working for him. Forget the guys name, but skinny with Glasses and a large blue tool box. And the guy that used to work for HR Owen and then for Sunseeker.

Both left after the summer. Kind of telling

Saw an episode last night where they were working on an MGA to get it through the Spanish MOT test. Having replaced both clean-looking SU carbs with brand new ones, they discovered that the distributor clamp plate was loose, causing the distributor to rotate leading to rough running and high emissions.

They then showed Jock hurling a pair of SUs in the bin (presumably, the perfectly serviceable originals).

So, for a part costing perhaps £3 to repair, the owner was no doubt saddled with a bill for hundreds, possibly £1000+
