Commenting on For Sale Adverts
Moderator: martauto
I've always been under the impression that no one should be commenting on for sale ads unless they are actually interested in purchasing the item for sale - I've found out myself it's particularly irritating.
I have seen plenty of people being told off for expressing their opinion if they think a price is high So why, if a price seems to be low, it's perfectly acceptable for many to post saying they think so?
Surely commenting on a price, irrelivant of whether it's thought as high or low, should be treated as the same.

I think the idea of a forum is to share your views and opinions, which you should still be able to do on a For Sale advert. The reason people usually complain that the price is too high is so that fellow Zoners don't get mugged off.
If you don't like it why don't you pay for your ad to be put on eBay instead?

there is a zone rule saying something along the lines of: "if you're not interested in buying the item, then you are not allowed to comment".
i agree with RSlut. i had some interfering **** making comments on my reply to someones wanted ad the other day!
mind your own f***ing business you interfering ****! do i have to run all my replies by you now then you nobody?
BTW: i have never made any comments on any of his posts in the past

Get a f* grip,we are talking about 20+yr.old sub £10k cars here,NOT the crown jewels!
I think you could associate any posts where a person isn't genuinely interested in the car as "spam".
Spam does keep a forum quite healthy but you could always genuinely PM a person if you felt the price was too strong or a steal!
Only a suggestion (of sorts) mind.

not really enforced though, I prefer not to sell parts on the zone, as do most others I know ,General rules for buyers
Please do not post comments on the condition or price of an item unless requested.
Please do not assume the role of a moderator by pointing out a flaws in an advertisement.
Please only post comments if you are interested in buying the item.

Don't quite agree with that one, we're a community and point out to fellow members when their for sale threads are generaly lacking in all requested information to stop their thread from being locked.
if you price something too high it won't sell.unless your lucky.RSlut wrote:As would someone saying the price is too high.magpie wrote:i don't see the fuss,it gets the add up the top of the page.
i have had people ask me on here the going rate for items so they can sell the parts on without over/under pricing.i'm no expert but i do turn car parts to cash quickly enough.
a price is too high comment can be seen in a couple of way's.
you either lower the price or keep the part/s.or ebay and it finds it's own level.

Regardless, that's not what I'm saying - people are only giving their opinions, whether it's cheap or overpriced scrap. You cant be allowed to say one, then not the other.Jhonno wrote:Saying the price is low isn't a negative comment.. Saying it is overpriced scrap is. Simple.
Either way I'd never comment unless I was actually interested in an item being sold.
Couldn't have put it better. If your dreaming then you will be told. If you don't like it sell elsewhere. It's free to advertise on the zone and so are other peoples opinions.magpie wrote:if you price something too high it won't sell.unless your lucky.RSlut wrote:As would someone saying the price is too high.magpie wrote:i don't see the fuss,it gets the add up the top of the page.

this is a very difficult thing to police, but to clarify some of the above....
1. the rules have been rewritten (by me
) and have yet to be offcially posted in place of the current rules, although they generally say the same thing, just clearer and without capitol letters
2. what is menat by do not point out flaws is do not post twenty messages saying "you need to add a picture of the thread will be locked" then posting a link to the rules. this does not have the desired effect as the advert is still visible and unfair on those who take the time to post a propoer ad with pics and price and location etc, i personally remove ads not witin the rules and pm the person saying post a pic and it can go back, other mods just post a warning, again each has a differnt approach, a seller like magpie who 99.9% posts a correct ad can be let off if he posts "pics to follow" the does it in the afternoon, this is common sense, but billy breaker with one post selling genuine limegreen 320 sports with no pics from coventry will be removed and pm'ed.
3. yes it is correct that posting spam ANYWHERE on the zone is frowned upon, but as above constructive critisism is always accepted be this critisism postive or negative, but what shoudl not happen is twenty zoners all post "this 50quid new LSD is scrap and over priced" if one has said it why do you need to post the same thing again if you agree, if you dont agree that a LSD for 50quid is scrap then also feel free to disagree, but again only one person needs to say it, not twenty sayinf the same thing - this is what i consider as spam.
4.this is a free forum to sell gear both privately and professionally - and thus you must accept not everyone will agree with your price and/or description, this is generally for the good of the genuine zone community, but nothing is stopping you ignoring the spam and selling your new 3.1 LSD for 50 quid or a miliion quid.
feel free to comment!!

'For Sale' part of the forum works in just the same way as all other sections, everybody can post on it.At the moment the team do not wish to limit the posting access to just classified adverts as is done on other forums, but we do request that zoner's are sensible with spam type comments!
Please remember that us mods are unpaid enthusiasts, just like you lot,we moderate for the good of all in our own time.
We would love to see every advert correctly worded, items photographed, clearly priced and location stated, this would leave us free to get on with helping others get the maximum use out of the rest of the zone.
Of course, continued mis-use of the advert section will only lead to a further review of the way it works, one suggestion already is that each advert should be locked as it appears,so that all contact is by either PM or telephone....

Maybe, but if people won't follow the rules, that option will give us a significantly easier life! Use it properly, and it will stay as it is!magpie wrote:^ last comment is the worst thing that could happen.
That's how it works on one forum, but that's just on cars for sale.daimlerman wrote:one suggestion already is that each advert should be locked as it appears,so that all contact is by either PM or telephone....
Much like an autotrader ad but for free and the person who posts has authority to lock/unlock their thread to either update the first post or add another post say with updated information, revised prices or more pictures.
As it's only E30 cars/items for sale there's a greater wealth of knowledge on here but Tom, Dick and Harry's opinion is maybe too much in one thread?
Although I have not experienced this myself.

I think if its a negative comment.....'dont like the wheels', 'seems overpriced' then they should be left out. If you know the car and can aid selling it then comment. On the other hand if you know the description to be a blatant lie then I believe you should comment too.
Just leave all the other pointless nads out.

^ Agree - read a post yesterday - someone selling a 325 engine, said it had 90k miles and was good and strong, potential buyer was asking a few questions - rightly so, however a couple of the guys jumped in to vouch for the honesty of the seller - thought that was good and i think that you would lose some of the zone community feel if that wasnt allowed to happen - if that makes sense?
Some people just try and get a rise out of others though by negative comments

why not give repeat offenders the warning instead of spoiling a reasonably good thing for everyone,Brianmoooore wrote:Maybe, but if people won't follow the rules, that option will give us a significantly easier life! I think that the ability for people to comment on ads gives buyers a much greater sense of confidence. If you were looking at an ad that was locked or if only positive comments were allowed then you wouldn't have the reassurance that "If this was tat, someone would have said so" as you do now.
