For the first few months of having my E30 cab, it had no radio. I amusmed myself by humming tunes to myself. Got one fitted the other week. There I was crusing along happily enough listening to the 80s compaltion I made for E30 driving. When I felt something was missing.
That little purr as I took a roundabout carefully then accelerated on the straight.
So I turned the radio down for abit...
Anyone else done this? Just to listen to the engine?
Mine is only a 320. What I want to know now does the 325 sound better?

Personally i think the 320i sounds way better due to the short stroke, you can only compare it when its got a b25 exhaust fitted thoughMine is only a 320. What I want to know now does the 325 sound better?

I think my 316 sounds quite sweet actually. And its better than the radio most of the time.

I do the same in my m20..... TBH the top end tick of my 325 gets on my nerves.
These are sensations as hard to forget as they are to ignore.....

Me too. I actually recorded the sound and had it as my ring tone on my phone for a while. Sad and childish but who cares.

I'm fitting leccy windows so I can easily roll down both sides and hear the sweet sounds. Especially backing off the throttle at high revs

This is where you feel sorry for the E30's that are missing 2 cylinders
Nah, the ol' M20 has a great sound. Multistory car parks all the way (I would say tunnels too, but we only have 1 in jersey and its all of a 100 yards long
).

Uni is killing the project.
+1 I'm a total child in this situation. Love it though.snowmaan wrote:i love the sound of the straight 6 in tunnel or multistory car park![]()

that always makes me turn the tunes off

Sold: 1986 E30 325i Cabriolet, Alpine White
Never listen to any tunes - just the deep rumble at tickover, rasping snarl giving way to a howl when pressing on hard and a wonderful purr when taking it gently. Can't beat the M20 for giving a quality sound.

Join the club. Plus a custom exhaust does tend to helpdanny_duke01 wrote:I have no radio as i'm using it as a track car...so i always get to listen to the engine noise and having no sound proofing helps!!
Although, I can only have the windows down about 2" as if I go any lower, the window hits the back of the adjustable wing mirror switches
M20 + BTB2 manifold and Scorpion exhaust
, oh i need to get my car running,
Still my touring sounds sweet as a nut.
