I'm jumping the gun a bit here, because I haven't seen my donor car yet, but assuming it's all running OK, I'm planning to pull an M42 out of an iS and put it in my M40 touring.
As far as I can gather, the engine swapping is fairly straightforward, but I've just got a couple of questions I can't seem to find the answer to, so if anyone knows and could answer the following questions, that would be great.
Loom - Where abouts do I need to replace M40 wiring with M42? Is it an unplug one and plug in the other job, or a bit more technical? I've never looked into the electrical side of things, and it might be obvious once I start removing stuff, but is there an easy "unplug loom at points x, y and z, plug in new loom" answer?
Exhaust - I'm thinking I'll just swap the entire exhaust from the donor to the victim, is this the best way? I don't have access to welding equipment/skills.

There is a large plug on the bulkhead which connects the engine loom to the rest of the car loom; this needs to be seperated.
Just behind and to the right of the battery there is a gromit where the engine loom goes into the cabin to the ECU. Undo the ECU and pull the connector and wiring through into the engine bay.
Then I think it's just the cables which connect to the battery
Not sure if you mean usuing the exhaust from the M40 but i'd recommend using the M42 one for obvious reasons.

See my 'wiring warning' sticky, in the engine swaps forum, although I doubt if it's relevant to a touring or an iS.
A further slight complication could occur if the touring has ABS, but again, I doubt it.

There is only bit of fabrication I can think of Guy, and that's the bracket for the coil packs on the drivers side suspension turret.
Sounds like a good project you have

Cheers all
First ever engine swap, but I'm working on the principle that if I rip the donk out of my daily driver, I'm going to have to figure it all out else I'll be living in my dads workshop. I'll do a more detailed assesment of what's needed once I have the donor and can look at what's going where.

.... and the solution I intended on before I got annoyed with the car for being wet inside!appletree wrote:Nice neat solutionrix313 wrote:Or do a coil on plug conversionstonesie wrote:There is only bit of fabrication I can think of Guy, and that's the bracket for the coil packs on the drivers side suspension turret.
Its a peice of pi$$ mate. I managed it for goodness sake! I would either re-use the m42 mounts, get new M42 mounts (not cheap but worth it) or use e34 525 solid rubber mounts from euros.
Some threads to peruse for guidance!

Cheers all, I'm going to go with the M42 COP conversion, just to avoid the need for welding. Hopefully I'll get enough back from the frag to cover the unexpected costs (i've made the mistake of spending all my loose change, even to the point where I haven't got enough cash for engine fluids!).
Just looking at those threads now robbo86. I'm relying on the goodwill of the chap in the unit next to me to help me out when things get messy, so hopefully it'll go smoothly because I want it done in a day (well, maybe one day to strip the neccessary bits off the iS, then one day to transplant).

Dude! You should have made it more obvious first time! I've paid for a plate off a breaking iS in the for sale section, would have paid the bit extra for yours since it comes with nuts and bolts.rix313 wrote:HeelToe wrote:I'm going to go with the M42 COP conversion
