I've been stripping my Tech 1 Sport today and found a relay next to the central locking relay i've never seen before;
Doesn't look 100% factory fitted with the nice cable ties holding everything together but it has a BMW part number. Any ideas what this is for?
Cheers
Dave

Yep,that's a BMW interior light relay,possibly retro fitted at some time,although I was inside a fusebox the other day and found cable ties there as well!
My interior light delay units were supplied by a zoner in the states,George,I think....still working after several moves!

Had an feeling that's what it might have been, but had never noticed the lights go off with a delay, but then the electrics had a mind of their own.
Will the wiring for the relay be there in all E30s then?

The 'relay' should be mounted on that plate, beside the locking ECU, but not by cable ties.
The locking ECU should be fitted by screws, and the bracket fixed to the shell, as it contains an impact sensor, which ensures the doors unlock in the event of a crash.
To retrofit one you need to rearrange a nearby plug into a different socket, and make a small modification to connect both inputs of the module together. This is because an OE set up will also have a trigger switch built into the drivers exterior door handle, and few retrofits bother with this.
