So you have a little less power than an F1 car, a higher top speed and non of the aero?g57yle wrote:oh kay?? LOLelnino1980 wrote:bmw e30 325i

Top speed geared to 238mph but i backed off at 187 gps speed
Yes, i saw this years ago, there is also a vid of an RX7 doing 215mph and does the same thing. this is the main reason i didnt exceed 200mph.DHFiS wrote:There is a good view of the underside of the car in this clip.

yes, but your missing a major factor. the f1 car will have significantly more drag at those kind of speeds for 3 reasons.DHFiS wrote:So you have a little less power than an F1 car, a higher top speed and non of the aero?g57yle wrote:oh kay?? LOLelnino1980 wrote:bmw e30 325i

1: its an open cockpit vehicle, which causes masses of drag
2: its an open wheel vehicle, which causes masses of drag
3: its set up for high downforce with in excess of 600kg of downforce at those speeds, which causes masses of drag.
basically by having "non of the aero" hes far better off. all those wings and bits are there to get it around a corner faster, not make it faster in a straight line. if you enclosed the wheels of the f1 car, put an aircraft style canopy on it and removed all the wings, (basically going "bullet") you would be looking at a much faster f1 car in a straight line but one that would be shit (and illegal) in an f1 race.
theres something else your forgetting, his car is turbocharged and an f1 car is na.
now i cba to go into the why, but he will have a hell of a lot more torque than the f1 car, which makes a big difference, after all its the area under the graph which dictates a fast car.

well it looks like its already been prooved that it is possible i was just going to chuck in that if terry davies has had his mk2 escort with a 2.0 yb engine up to 180 with a missfire in 5th and no nitrous im pretty sure you can make an e30 crack 190

Correct me if Im wrong but the reason the rx7 lost it is because after 200 mark the owner increase the oxygen mixture which created an imbalance and he then lost it no the speed itself at the time
Dreaming of the day I purchase an E30 M3

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Wouldn't worry so much about bits flying off as the whole thing taking off!Dan318-is wrote:it wouldn't suprise me if enough lift was created to lift the thing of the ground!

Just read the rest of the thread....190 in an e30?! I'm amazed but impressed that it stayed on the ground. I wonder how long it would have if you'd maintained 190? lolg57yle wrote:I can say i have achieved 190mph in an E30 (off public roads) and still pulling hard @629hp but backed off as i could feel too much lift
The car started feeling light at approx 150+.
You're nuts, btw!! In the nicest possible way!
Correct, but im pritty sure that if it had enough downforce theres no way he would have lost it at over 200.madaboutthe30 wrote:Correct me if Im wrong but the reason the rx7 lost it is because after 200 mark the owner increase the oxygen mixture which created an imbalance and he then lost it no the speed itself at the time
Im not bothered if i can do 200mph just as long as i know its planted!
LOL, Thanks. I did catch some wind decelerating around 175 and wasnt funny AT ALL!snakebrain wrote:Just read the rest of the thread....190 in an e30?! Its possible the increased oxygen boosted the engine to the point the tyres could no longer transmit the power to the track surface.madaboutthe30 wrote:Correct me if Im wrong but the reason the rx7 lost it is because after 200 mark the owner increase the oxygen mixture which created an imbalance and he then lost it no the speed itself at the time
