Bought myself an E39 touring, with a recent new addition (3rd!) to the family, needed something a bit bigger. E36 is up for sale, sad to see it go, but needs must!

Best choice IMO. Rapid, decent MPG and without all the issues that go with the diesel models. First thing I'd be doing is getting that "Sealed for Life" gearbox oil changed.

Been done, along with the filter.

Also had the 'hedgehog' replaced under warranty, and a new CD changer in the last couple of months.

I think the ,most expensive bill is going to be the tyres!

Result! I can guarantee that most of them never see fresh gearbox oil or a filter. Not a cheap job either.

Good news on the hedgehog front too - more a case of when it fails than if.

I haven't driven it locally much yet, but on the motorway drive back from Norfolk, it averaged about 33mpg, and that was on cruise control at 70mph.

The exhaust is nice, it's an eisenmann system, good quality bit of kit.

Hedgehog is the nick name for the final stage (heater blower motor resistor) because it has a heat sink which are lots of metal spikes.

really really nice!!! i would really love an E39....Erm hang on...i have one!!!

The sport kit really makes the things look very good and the dechrome look definately suits a black car, now switch the wipers on to setting one and wait for the rain..best feature i discovered last week!! Auto wipers when it drizzels!! happy times

I've never been a believer of auto functions in a car, but the auto wipers are bloody good!

Got plenty of toys too, heated electric memory seats too!

3 kids no mucking about eh! I like it, auto climate is nice i think

Really looks the business and 530's really go well. I was really impressed with B7's 530i saloon when he took me out in it, they've a good turn of speed/torque

Well, all is well so far.

Had to get rid of the standard halogen bulbs (e-bay specials), and fitted a HID kit.

Also got an air loss problem in a rear tyre sorted..

Which HID kit did you fit? I'm thinking of going the same route on my 530i sport.

Trev, I already had a kit that I removed from my E36, but the bulbs for the E39 are H7's, so just bought a pair of bulbs. Went for 4300k.

You will also need to purchase some holders, I bought the wrong ones for OE angel eye lamps, doh.

Now that is nice. Nice to see the proper rear wheels from the m5 on it too. Quite often just see 4 fronts on them

Cool.

This looks a nice bit of kit but they only start at 6000k which I think is OTT.

however, theres these as well with the 4300k bulbs
