Hi,
I have an E30 rally car and for that I need a front towing eye. I cannot use the standard screw in one, as this protrudes and hence the Fuzz wont be happy about that.

The alternative is to find a bolt that fits the towing eye hole and then to have a strap fitted to that. This way I continue to use the standard towing pick-up point on the front chassis rail, which is strong and I also no longer have something protruding past the front of the car.

To do that I need a bolt that fits into the standard towing eye bolt hole.
Anybody know where I could get one?

Alternatively any good ideas for other mounting arrangements are also welcome.

Cheers

Ingo

wind a nut onto the towing eye as far as it will go, grind off the "hoop/eye" then weld the end of the thread to the top of the nut??

I know what you mean, and its a good idea.

I will need to check if the remaining thread still protrudes sufficiently to allow good engagement with the bolt hole

Keep the ideas coming!!!

He would still need to know the thread of the towing eye.

I think its a wanky size coarse thread.

Good luck with the hunt.

The only thread you are likely to find that will fit into an E30 towing eye thread is the one on the end of an E30 towing eye! It's far from a standard thread.
Are you sure the protruding standard towing eye is illegal? From what I can remember of these things, it has a sufficient radius not to be classed as a sharp edge.

Cut the standard hoop half way through with an angle gringer and bend it down, then weld the cut up to strengthen it again.
