Yeah but do they work for long after??
Do you need a new head, pistons etc & can you do it yourself??
& i surpose you should do the work on a spair engine

I'm going to have a serious think. Have a look on here for some turbo related subjects & mayb talk to ant about how much Ԛ£Ã”šÃ‚£ need to be spent!! & mayb ill have to come down to a meet one night to check a turbo'd e30 out
But at the end of the day - there realy is no sound like a dump valve

You're asking in the wrong place about making a decision between an E30 or a Ford... seriously, those RS's have all been ragged to death from day one and are owned by no-one but chavs and boyracers, I know what I'd go for.

i know i'm biased but i'd have to disagree,But at the end of the day - there realy is no sound like a dump valve
the sound of a tuned v8 through a virtualy straight through system is
for me anyway

Easier said than done. You need a good source of funds and need to understand a lot about turbo mechanics and what sort of parts to source for the conversion as there's no set way of doing it. You'll also need a decent tool kit and be competent to strip things and fabricate custom parts.wilson325i wrote:just turbo the tourer mate.

cost me Ԛ£2500 for the labour. i supplied everything from engine, gearbox, wiringloom to the dump valve itself! which was salvaged from my last project- a cossie converted 1985 toyota celica, which came to a sticky end in a race with a motorbike!!! all the parts needed would add about another Ԛ£4000+ onto the price depending on the spec of the engine. mine is stage 3(330-340 bhp)

i take it youve read my "garage excuses" post then? im still waiting for it back from the garage concerned, hopefully this is the week!!!!! as the engine was rebuilt for me and fitted to my last car,im fully aware of what its capable off, so i can hardly wait!!!!
Right let me help you make your mind up.
I have driven FWD for 10 years and in that time i owned one of the countrys cleanest modded Escort RSturbo S1 which was RR at 227bhp
I spent Ԛ£Ã”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£ on it and only had it on the road for 5weeks out of the 6 months i owned it as the car had a homeing device for the local garage
as it was a ford Fix Or Repair Dayly FORD. Now the only ford worth bying is an escort MK1 or MK2
Then i owned a 205 gti running twin 45s and run a time of 14.5 at the pod
and found it more fun that the RS escort.
Now i had this erge to go RWD so i sold the 205 and went and bought myself a nice tidy red E30 325i and i f-in love it. I have had a LSD fitted and should pick it up tomorrow night. This car by fare is the best fun pound for pound i have ever bought as the round abouts are awsome to tackle and i am now preping the car for 2006 drift season

I thought Cosworth Turbo conversion was supposed to be cheap and easy, once you've found and paid for the donor, in that the Cossie engine is fairly small and fits in easily.
It's only a couple of custom engine mounts - easy enough to weld up, a custom gearbox crossmember - again, simple fabrication and a custom prop - about Ԛ£100 or so. The rest is just plumbing and wiring.
I could just about live with lifting up my bonnet and seeing Cosworth written there, but not Ford.

DIY turbo conversions are a right load of hassle and probably not worth it IMO.
The RS turbos can be good cars, but most are not. They also went to all that effort of blowing a 1.6 and ended up with performance figures that a n/a 2L engine could make. Sure you can boost them up more, but then the engine suffers on the reliability front.
Anyway, to my mind, no contest between an E30 and an RST.

if only things were that simple!!! it is surprisingly tight for it only being a 4 pot, theres about 5mm between the brake servo and tha inlet manifold ,which had to be ground smooth to make a bit more space, the exhaust manifold had to be changed to a 4wd part because its a more compact part as the 2wd item fouled the inner wing, which in turn meant the mounting bolts for the turbo had to be welded up and redrilled and threaded as they are different. a new anti roll bar had to be made to clear the bellhousing. the steering column was in the way of the down pipe which required altering. the front chassis legs had to be cut, reshaped and welded up to allow the intercooler and rad to fit in and the cosworth clutch had to be converted to hydraulic which required more fabrication of brackets etc. and theres less than 40mm between the pulleys on the front and the fans on the rad,and this was all pretty much expected by the garage in the original quote.
